After years of remaining notoriously tight-lipped about her love life, Kristen Stewart is opening up about the joys of being in a relationship with Alicia Cargile.

In a new interview with ELLE UK, the actress, 26, has admitted that she's totally smitten with her belle - with whom she has been romantically linked for over a year - after navigating a rough patch.

'I think also right now I’m just really in love with my girlfriend,' she cooed. 'We’ve broken up a couple of times and gotten back together, and this time I was like, "Finally, I can feel again."'

Kristen Stewart has rather a split personality when it comes to clothes, she’s either super causal in her jeans and sweatshirts when she’s off-duty, or looking super glam dressed to the nines for red carpet events and photoshoots.

And Kristen also revealed that she's enjoying a new sense of openness thanks to her relationship - something which she feels she wasn't afforded when she dated Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson.

'When I was dating a guy I was hiding everything that I did because everything personal felt like it was immediately trivialised, so I didn't like it,' she told the fashion magazine.

'We were turned into these characters and placed into this ridiculous comic book, and I was like, "That’s mine. You’re making my relationship something that it’s not." I didn’t like that.

'But then it changed when I started dating a girl. I was like, "Actually, to hide this provides the implication that I’m not down with it or I’m ashamed of it, so I had to alter how I approached being in public. It opened my life up and I’m so much happier.”'

In the interview, she also spoke about her struggles with anxiety, saying: 'I went through so much stress and periods of strife. I would have panic attacks…I literally always had a stomach ache.

'And I was a control freak and I couldn't anticipate what was going to happen in a given situation, so I’d be like, "Maybe I’m going to get sick."'

She added: 'It’s kind of remarkable. I just grew out of it, but that’s not to say I don’t get worried.'

Having enjoyed a charmed life in an industry where stars experience a wide range of ups and downs, Kristen has been sure to adopt a positive outlook on life.

'I obviously hope everything going on right now will work out, but I am confident that life is good and I’ll be OK whatever happens,' she told the magazine.

'So in moments when that is cloudy and I feel saturated and unable to engage in how good life can be, however consuming those feelings are, they are so momentary… I’m think pretty good at being happy.'

Kristen faced criticism during her relationship with Robert Pattinson, as it was revealed she was involved in a scandalous affair with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders.

In July of 2012, photos surfaced showing Kristen and Rupert, 44, getting a little too close and personal; the images, which made headlines around the world, showed the pair kissing and embracing during a day out in Los Angeles.

At the time, Rupert was married to model Liberty Ross, with whom he has two children, and Kristen was in a years-long relationship with Robert.

Whilst the prospective couples appeared to work through the scandal initially, within a year the Twilight stars had split and Liberty filed for divorce from her husband
