Taylor Swift's 'Red' Sells 1.21 Million; Biggest Sales Week for an Album Since 2002

From country to pop and back again, Taylor Swift is showing the world her musical versatility via the previews from her fourth album. After releasing the singles "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "Begin Again," Swift unveiled the title track to "Red," due out Oct. 22, on Tuesday (Oct. 2).

Not since her "Love Story" days has Swift sold such a country kick to mainstream fans: while much of her music is guitar-based with a hint of pop, "Red" is downright Nashville. The steel guitar twangs all the way through the song, while there's an electronic effect on her vocals in the chorus that serves as both a hook and as a device to emphasize the importance of the title word.

"Losing him was blue like I'd never known / Missing him was dark grey all alone… but loving him was red," she sings.

The song is the third cut to be released from "Red," right on the heels of last week's "Begin Again" and following Swift's first Hot 100 chart-topper, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." One month after "Red's" release, Swift will perform at the MTV European Music Awards in Frankfurt on Nov. 11.
