Having been in the spotlight since her teens, Britney Spears has had a number of relationships in the public eye.

The 34-year-old twice-married pop princess told Australian radio hosts Rove & Sam on Monday that she's still a romantic at heart, despite her chequered history when it comes to dating.

'I've been through horrible relationships but unfortunately I still believe in love and that sort of thing,' she told Rove McManus and Sam Frost.

The revelation seemed bittersweet for the pop star, when asked by Rove if she is in fact a hopeless romantic, answering in a downcast tone: 'Unfortunately I am'.

Rove then revealed his idea of romance involves making mix tapes for his wife of seven years, Tasma Walton, to which Britney perked up, saying: 'That's so cheesy and so sweet but that's what I like, cheesy and sweet and nice'.

The singer said she wouldn't be looking for love in any nightclubs, as those days are behind her now, admitting: 'I'm not a club person,
