EXCLUSIVE: 'It could have killed her -there was blood everywhere': Gisele Bundchen's childhood friend recalls harrowing moment the supermodel was stabbed in the wrist 

Gisele Bundchen could have died in a childhood knife accident, Daily Mail Online can reveal.

The supermodel was just 12 years old, eating oranges with friends in a field close to her home in Horizontina, in southern Brazil, when a friend threw a knife at her, skewering her left wrist.

The wound, said to have ‘covered her in blood’, left her with a scar which the now-35-year-old is believed to have covered with a star tattoo.

Cezar Oliviera, 35, one of Gisele’s closest friends recalls: ‘It could have killed her. There was blood everywhere’.

Oliviera said the incident happened after he, Gisele and a group of friends were playing outside and decided to rest to eat some oranges.

The group passed around a knife so they could cut open the juicy fruit.

‘It came to Gisele’s turn to eat and for some reason the boy with the knife decided to throw it at her,’ he told Daily Mail Online. ‘The blade pierced her wrist and cut her quite badly. She yelled out in pain straight away.’

The group of friends ran to Oliviera’s parents’ home, and his mother bandaged her wrist.

‘She was hurt quite badly and was screaming because of all the blood. She was covered.’ Oliviera said. ‘It did leave a scar and she later had a star tattoo on her wrist which I think was to cover it up.’

Oliviera, who still lives in Horizontina, said he never would have guessed that Gisele would go on to be one of the world’s most famous models.

‘As kids we would all love to eat cakes baked by my mom,’ he recalled. ‘Eating bad food was not an issue back then. Obviously not something a future model would enjoy!’

Oliviera said the model and her sisters would play in a dollhouse they had at the home and that Gisele towered over everyone before she hit her teenage years.

‘She actually had a bit of a stoop because she was always looking down at people,’ he said.

Her height did, however, help her excel at volleyball, which she played during school and was her team’s captain.

‘At one stage she was really thinking about whether she should be a model or a professional volleyball player,’ Oliviera said. ‘There were a lot of girls from Horizontina who had the looks to be a model and Gisele wasn’t sure at first she could make it.

‘It’s incredible now to remember that because she was the one with all the special qualities to make it.’

Oliviera also remembers seeing Gisele outside her family home during her first visit home after being named the world’s number one model.

‘I saw her standing outside and I didn’t know how to react. She was in her late teens and had become quite famous,’ he said. ‘I wasn’t sure if I should say hello to her or not.’

It turned out, however, that Gisele ‘hadn’t changed at all because of her fame’.

‘As soon as she saw me she called me over and kissed me hello,’ Oliviera said. ‘We got on just like old times.’

He said that Gisele’s childhood room hadn’t changed since she was a little girl.

But when he asked to get a selfie with his childhood friend-turned-famous model, they had to take several photos ‘because she wanted it to be perfect’.

When she returned home to Horizontina again in 2009, she brought her husband, NFL star Tom Brady.

Gisele invited Oliviera to join them and her family to a pizza restaurant in town.

‘Tom’s Portuguese wasn’t great so Gisele translated for him,’ he said. ‘She was really enjoying showing him where she grew up.’

The model’s old friend said that Tom and Gisele were ‘sweethearts’ and that there is ‘no doubt he is the love of her life.’

Oliviera joined the couple for ice cream after eating at the pizza restaurant, and ‘hundreds of people’ had stopped by to say hello.

He mentioned that Tom and Gisele’s marriage had a rough patch last year and he was ‘worried because Gisele stayed off social media for a month’.

Last year, Gisele and Tom's marriage was rocked after the nanny accused of having an affair with Ben Affleck was spotted in a private jet wearing Tom's Super Bowl rings.

‘I thought that [Gisele staying of social media] was a sign that the problems could be real,’ Oliviera said. ‘They’re over that now, of course.’

Oliviera also poured scorn on reports that Gisele has undergone plastic surgery.

‘From the latest photos of her I have seen her nose has not changed,’ he said. ‘She has hardly changed since she was a teenager.’

And more than anything, Oliviera hopes Gisele makes her way back to Horizontina soon.

‘I can’t wait to see here here at home again,’ he said.
