The famously fire-headed Sophie Turner has cooled her fiery locks to an icy platinum blonde.

The 20-year-old actress unveiled her stark new look on her Instagram page on Monday.

'I did a thing...' she captioned the shot of the top half of her face, as she lay on a carpeted floor with her lighter hair spread out beneath her.

Immediately fans speculated what this meant for her Game Of Thrones Sansa Stark, whose ginger top is just as famous as the actress who plays her.

The internet erupted last year when the first pictures of Kit Harrington - who plays her half brother/cousin Jon Snow - emerged with a new haircut, shortly after his character had been 'killed off' in the show.

Fans had simply refused to believe he had been written out, and clung to any theory he might have avoided death.

But those theories which lost weight when the Brit chopped off the Crow's famous black curls... something he was contractually prohibited from doing while working on the show. 

However as every follower of the HBO epic now knows, Harington did indeed return to the show, via resurrection from Carice Van Houten's self-skeptical Melisandre. 

Of course Sansa could have dyed her hair in the show - she has done it before, to a darker shade, when she tried to pass herself off as Petyr Baelish's (Aidan Gillen) daughter Alayne Stone.

Earlier this year Turner played another famous red head - Jean Grey - in X-Men Apocalypse.

Game of Thrones has only two season left, with the remaining seasons shortened from the usual ten episodes.

Last week HBO's new programming president Casey Bloys confirmed that season 8 would be the last, but would not confirm if it would have just six episodes, as has been speculated.
