Gotham hits London: DC Comics' star-studded cast of superheroes land for premiere of Suicide Squad (shame about the reviews)

A plethora of A-list talent descended on Leicester Square for the Suicide Squad European premiere on Wednesday night.

Bringing together supervillains from across the DC Comics universe including the Joker, Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang, the film's producers drafted in suitably famous faces to play the iconic parts.

And while the movie may have been panned by the critics, it didn't stop the likes of Cara Delevingne, Jared Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Ben Affleck, to name but a few, from attending.

Cara led the star-studded arrivals down Leicester Square's hot pink carpet, along with blonde beauty Margot Robbie.

Model-turned-actress Cara wowed in an Alexander McQueen sheer black dress with rock star leather detail for her big moment in the spotlight.

The blonde beauty showed off her eccentric sense of style by ditching the glam premiere gown for a more gothic vibe.

Go Gothic like Cara in a tulle dress by Alexander McQueen

Cara Delevingne is the queen of the red carpet.

So it was only fitting that the supermodel turned actress wore Alexander McQueen for the red carpet premiere of Suicide Squad in London!

She has really been killing it (pardon the pun) whilst doing the rounds to promote the film, rocking everything from Anthony Vaccarello and Alexandre Vauthier to Versace and Zuhair Murad. But we're head over heels in love with this Gothic ballerina look!

She teamed a sheer black lace knit dress from the AW16 collection with a leather and shearling jacket (featuring the charms that were a running theme throughout the line) and her favorite Christian Louboutin over the knee leather boots. Quite a combination!

Her little black dress isn't yet available to buy yet, but click (right) to shop the current collection at Net-a-Porter. And while you're browsing, check out this version of Cara's jacket at Selfridges (below).

Or take a style risk in one of tulle dresses we've picked out for you. This little Needle & Thread number will do the trick!

Cara showed off her model figure in her racy choice of dress, with the flimsy sheer fabric flaunting her hot pants and plenty of skin.

Her modesty was preserved up top with the dress' leather detail, making it look as though the stylish star had slung a rockstar jacket over her frock, with the leather covered in glitzy badges.

A pair of thigh-high black boots from Louboutin added to the rock vibe, while Cara completed her ensemble with black cuffs and smoky eye make-up.

The film is a departure from usual comic book plot structures which typically see clearly-defined 'good' characters tackle evil villains.

However, Suicide Squad turns this notion on its head and follows a group of villainous anti-heroes as they are recruited to take on an even more evil antagonist.

IMDB describes the plot as, 'Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity.'

Ahead of its release this weekend the blockbuster has attracted a string of disastrous reviews. The film has been criticised for 'appalling sexism and hideously timed gun worship'.

The widely panned film has been dubbed 'mundane' and 'predictable,' while one reviewer warned that it 'isn't even the good kind of bad'.

One of the harshest reviews seemed to stem from Richard Lawson at Vanity Fair, who along with the aforementioned quote, called it:

'A shapeless, poorly edited trudge that adds some mildly appalling sexism and even a soupçon of racism to its abundant, hideously timed gun worship.'

Director David Ayer addressed the critics on Twitter this week with a Emiliano Zapata quote: 'Prefiero morir de pie que vivir de rodillas', which translates as 'I'd prefer to die standing, than to live always on my knees'.

Jared Leto sported a flamboyant double-breasted green coat with baby pink trousers and black loafers in keeping with the crazy, colourful nature of his Joker character.

The bearded star flashed a thumbs up at the crowd but remained straight-faced as he stood on the carpet. While most would struggle to pull off such a garish ensemble, Jared just about managed it, although he did bear and uncanny resemblance to Will Ferrell in Elf.

Laura Whitmore was another who dressed to impress as she hosted the event and interviewed the A-list cast.

Cara and Margot made quite the scene as their limousine ferried them to the after party, dancing wildly through its open-top roof.

They wore matching blue track suits that didn't quite meet their waists, offering delicious glimpses of their midriff and, at times, Cara's undergarments.

When they arrived at their hotel, security guards had to clear a path so that the duo, who were holding hands, could enter.
