'Hope begins with rebellion': Star Wars stand-alone film Rogue: One debuts TV ad with revealing tagline as premiere date is just FOUR MONTHS away

A first TV spot for the Star Wars stand-alone film Rogue One has debuted.

The 30-second clip doesn't feature any new material as all the footage has already been shared in the April trailer.

But the teaser does feature a tagline: 'On December 16, hope begins with rebellion.' This is a nod to the first Star Wars film from 1977 that was called A New Hope.

Rogue One is set for a December 16 release, about one year after The Force Awakens - which starred Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and John Boyega - came out.

The stand alone is set before the first Star Wars film as a band of rebels gather to steal the blueprints for the evil Empire's killing machine, the Death Star.

Those prints are seen in the 1977 film - which introduced theater goers to the magical trio of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher - after R2-D2 shares them.

Lucasfilm has already released one trailer for Rogue One in April. A second trailer was shown in London, but that has yet to come online.

There was also a behind-the-scenes reel, which debuted at Star Wars Celebration Europe in June.

In this new clip, it opens with a shot of a Star Destroyer of Imperial class floating by. Then a look at the Death Star is shown as smaller jets pass in front of it.

A hooded Felicity Jones, who plays Jyn Erso, is then shown in close up. Quickly she is flashed again on screen as she blasts Stormtroopers and causes an explosion.

'This is a rebellion isn't it?' she is heard asking.

Jones is then seen standing in a control room with neon green images behind her. She says in a bratty manner: 'I rebel' as if she's challenging someone to send her into danger.

A siren is heard blasting in an unsettling consistent pattern as Jones runs.

She then walks next to Captain Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, and the face of Saw Gerrera, played by Forest Whitaker, is shown.

The tag line is slowly unrolled: 'Hope begins with rebellion.'

Whitaker, who appears to be overacting as usual, says: 'If you continue to fight, what will YOU become?'
