Nick Cave speaks for the first time about 'catastrophic' loss of his son, Arthur, 15, in haunting film trailer one year after teen plunged to his death

His 15-year-old son plunged to his death from a 60ft cliff after 'tripping out' while taking LSD with a friend in July last year.

And more than one year on, Australian singer Nick Cave has hinted about how the 'catastrophic' loss has left him unable to recognise himself.

In a haunting trailer for a film that will launch his band's new album, he said: 'What happens when an event occurs that is so catastrophic you just change.

'You change from the known person, to an unknown person.

'So that when you look at yourself in the mirror, do you recognise the person that you were but the person inside the skin is a different person.'

The frontman for acclaimed band Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds looked devastated in the trailer as his moving words were played in a voice-over.

He was seen hunched over a piano in the recording studio, while his closest collaborator Warren Ellis plays some tense lines on violin.

At the start of the short trailer, titled One More Time With Feeling, Nick also mused about how people do not want to change.

'Most of us don't want to change really I mean why should we,' he said.

'What we do want is sort of modifications on the original model' We keep on being ourselves, but just hopeful better versions of ourselves.'

Grief: The musician and his wife, Susie Bick (pictured together), were left devastated

An inquest into Arthur's death heard that the 15-year-old was 'disorientated' when he stumbled off a cliff into the Ovingdean Gap near Brighton on July 14 last year.

The teenager - who had LSD and cannabis in his system - was tripping out so badly he 'couldn't feel what was real and what wasn't real any more'.

In a final message to a friend he said: 'Where am I? Where am I?', police have revealed.

Nick, his wife Susie Bick and Arthur's twin brother Earl were all left heartbroken by the sudden loss.

In a heartbreaking note left alongside a floral tribute, Earl said he was a 'joy to be around'.

The note read: 'Arthur - I love you so much. You were a joy to be around. I will never forget you.'

He added: 'You were the best brother I could ever ask for'.

Nick is thought to have poured the anguish of losing his son into his upcoming album, Skeleton Tree.

Writing and recording began in late 2014 and continued in France a few months after Arthur fell to his death in July last year.

One More Time With Feeling, directed by Andrew Dominik, will hit cinemas on September 8, a day before the release of the band's 16th studio album.
