Die-hard Republican Caitlyn Jenner says she has not 'outwardly' supported Donald Trump

  • The transgender icon is a longtime supporter of the Republican party
  • In an interview on HBO's Any Given Wednesday, Jenner claimed that she had not 'outwardly' supported Donald Trump
  • However, several times in the past year, Jenner has defended Trump and said that he would be good for women's issues
  • Jenner added that she wants to help the GOP 'do a better job when it comes to LGBT issues'
  • Her political beliefs are contrary to many in the famous Kardashian clan
  • Jenner's daughter Kendall, and his stepdaughters Kim and Khloe Kardashian, have all expressed support for Hillary Clinton

Caitlyn Jenner says she backs the Republican party, but hasn't 'outwardly supported anybody' in the presidential race, including GOP nominee Donald Trump.

During an appearance on HBO's 'Any Given Wednesday,' Jenner was questioned about her Republican ideology and whether she supports Trump.

While she says she believes the GOP is the best choice for America, she says she hasn't publicly supported Trump - despite several instances in the past year when she has defended the controversial Republican.

'I honestly have not outwardly supported anybody,' Jenner said, adding that she wants 'to help the entire Republican Party do a better job when it comes to LGBT issues.'

'The Republican party, they have not been as good when it comes to LGBT issues and social issues,'Jenner said. 'So I've kind of positioned myself with the Republican party, of trying to help these people understand...what the issues are for the LGBT community, and obviously, in my case, the "T" portion.'

After Trump said in April that transgender people should be able to use whatever bathroom they choose, Jenner made a video of herself going into the women's bathroom at New York's Trump International Hotel and Tower.

And in an episode of her reality TV show, I Am Cait, last year, she defended Trump to her mostly-liberal set of friends.

When asked by one of her companions what she thinks of Trump, Jenner replies that she is 'not a big fan' because of his macho attitude.

'I think he would have a hard time with women when he doesn't even realize it,' she explains, 'and it doesn't mean he wouldn't be good for women's issues, I think he would be very good for women's issues.'

Jenner's pronouncement was greeted with stunned silence and bewildered looks from her friends, one of whom, Jenny Boylan, muttered, 'Kill me now.'

Jenner then went on to say, 'I don't think he's out there to destroy women or takes things away or do any of that kind of stuff.'

In the same episode, Jenner also called Clinton, now the Democratic nominee, a liar and 'a political hack'.

And Jenner has stuck by these opinions. Just a few weeks ago, she told STAT News that 'Trump seems to be very much for women'.

Jenner's political beliefs are quite at odds with the rest of the Kardashian Klan. His daughter Kendall, and stepdaughters Kim and Khloe Kardashian, have all voiced support for Clinton.

Formerly known as Bruce Jenner, Caitlyn transitioned to her new identity last year.

Jenner said at an event in Cleveland during last month's Republican National Convention that it was easier to come out as transgender than it was as a Republican.
