She's usually seen dressed to the nines, but Laverne Cox showed off her natural beauty in a gorgeous selfie on Thursday.

The 32-year-old proved that she looks amazing whether glammed up or stripped down as she posed for an Instagram snapshot after ditching the wig and going make-up free.

'The other day after I took out my braids before we put them back in. I keep it natural underneath. #NaturalHair #NoFilter #NoMakeup #JustMe,' Laverne wrote in the caption.

The Orange Is The New Black star explained that she loves getting dressed up, but is equally happy showing her more natural side.

'I love fake hair. It's one of the great joys of my life,' she wrote. 'As an actress and a woman I love being able to transform, to switch up my look when I want to with wigs, weaves and bundles a plenty. I love this too. It's about choices and options.'

Over the weekend, Laverne attended the Teen Choice Awards, where she cut a glamorous figure in a black jumpsuit.

The actress teamed the trendy ensemble with long, poker straight platinum locks and lashings of make-up.

Laverne shot to fame after landing the role of Sophia Burset on Orange Is The New Black, and has appeared on the show since it kicked off in 2013.

In 2014, she made history after becoming the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy Award in the acting category.

Laverne has also been named the first openly transgender person to grace the cover of Time magazine and the first to have a wax figure at Madame Tussauds.

The star can next be seen playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the much-anticipated Fox TV movie reboot of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which airs on October 20.

Laverne is currently filming upcoming TV series Doubt, due to premiere next year, and will star alongside Bette Midler, Abigail Breslin and AnnaSophia Robb in the drama movie Freak Show.
