He is the oiled-up flag bearer who stole the opening ceremony and sent social media into meltdown.

And Tongan Olympian Pita Taukatofua is going to melt even more hearts as it's revealed he works as a Youth Counsellor helping homeless children - as well as being a part-time model.

Taufatofua, the first Tongan to represent his country for Taekwondo in the Olympics, shot to fame after he walked in the opening ceremony shirtless - completely smothered in baby oil.

Taukatofua stole the show when he marched into the ceremony proudly waving the flag of the tiny Polynesian nation, wearing nothing but a ta'ovala, or Tongan mat. 

Though he competes for Tonga he lives in Brisbane, Australia where he helps homeless kids to survive independently. 

The 32-year-old won gold competing in the 80+ kg competition at the Oceania Olympic Tournament. 

In his training for Rio he broke six bones, tore three ligaments, spent three months in a wheelchair, a year and a half on crutches and hundreds of hours of physiotherapy, reports Fiji Times. 

His Instagram account shows some of his modelling work including a wedding shoot. He has reportedly been modelling since he was 18.

Taukatofua also has a degree in engineering and is currently completing his Masters.

After walking in the ceremony he instantly took social media by storm, with commenters swooning over his muscular physique and revealing outfit.

‘Tongan flag bearer just won the Olympics’ wrote one commenter.

‘Moving to #Tonga, Bye’ wrote another.

‘I am not sure if Pita used Tongan oil or baby oil, but I'm wlling to do first hand research for you all. Coz I'm such a good friend,’ wrote another.

Taukatofua, 32, was born in Australia but wanted to compete for his father's country.

He qualified in April after trying  to make the two previous Olympics.

The website generosity.com says he  'sacrificed his whole adult life working in homeless shelters with the underprivileged.'
