'I drink vodka and dance in my pants': Hugh Grant opens up about his evenings in... and THAT arrest for lewd behaviour

Give Hugh Grant vodka and leave him alone - and he'll dance in his underpants.

The 55-year-old actor, speaking with CBS News in his native London Sunday, admitted that while he hated performing his classic dance scene in the 2003 romantic comedy Love Actually, he'll occasionally cut a rug when no one's looking.

'I dreaded the dance scene in Love Actually more than having my teeth extracted,' Grant told the network. 'And you know, the thing is, you gotta be in the mood for dancing.

'You know, it takes me quite a lot of vodka before I really want to, or if I'm alone at home with no one around, I like a bit of a dance sometimes in my pants.'

The About a Boy star, who trained in the art of dancing for his new film Florence Foster Jenkins, confirmed that his antics were 'very much so' like those of Tom Cruise's character in the iconic dance scene in 1983's Risky Business.

The actor was candid in the exchange, opening up about what he called his career 'hiccup' - his June 1995 lewd behavior arrest in Hollywood when he was caught with Divine Brown, a 25-year-old prostitute.

(In a highly-rated appearance on The Tonight Show shortly thereafter - credited for helping sway the mid-90s talk show wars in Jay Leno's favor over David Letterman - Leno famously asked Grant, 'What the hell were you thinking?')

The Notting Hill star told CBS he was 'very naughty' and 'very drunk' in his run-in with Brown, which he dubbed 'regrettable.'

Grant said he didn't feel singled out by the media firestorm that arose out of the incident, as he said it 'was entirely to be expected.

Grant said he wasn't surprised 'that there would be a huge hullabaloo about that, particularly given this rather absurd persona that I had been given about who I was on the back of' the 1994 film Four Weddings and a Funeral.

'People thought I was this nice character I played in that film. And so I suppose the contrast between that person and this seedy behavior was juicy stuff. And I quite understand why it was a big story.'

Despite the embarrassment he endured as result of the sordid arrest, Grant said his career was 'not particularly' damaged, as the film he had out at the time, Nine Months, performed well at the box office, showing he was marketable despite the misstep.

'Hollywood only minds about money,' Grant said. 'And that film did fine, the film that was coming out at the time.

Troubled times: Mug shots of both Grant and Brown were plastered all over media in the wake of the mid-90s scandal

'And yeah, that's all that really matters: As long as you make them money, they don't care what you get up to.'

The Oxford grad, a father-of-four, in the chat also revealed insights as to why he's never gotten married: 'I have known a few good marriages, but very few and others look to me like they're pretty miserable; I don't really think that's a recipe for happiness.'

Florence Foster Jenkins hits theaters Friday.
