He sparked marriage rumours by wearing a ring on that finger, just last week.

But Ed Sheeran kept fans guessing on Friday night, as he hid his hand while making a rare public appearance for his close pal Cara Delevigne's 24th birthday bash in West London.

The 25-year-old singer looked in high spirits as he was joined by his girlfriend of one year Cherry Seaborn, who similarly kept her ring finger under wraps.

Ed has been keeping a relatively low profile since announcing his career hiatus at the end of last year.

The Thinking Out Loud singer looked casually clad in a white jumper and khaki bottoms, while teaming it was a 'hoax' baseball cap.

Following him was his casually clad girlfriend Cherry who complemented her all-black outfit with a denim jacket.

Ed and Cherry have been dating since last summer, but have known each other for years.

According to the Daily Mirror, Ed and Cherry both attended Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk, but it's thought the pair only recently reconnected again.

Cherry currently lives in New York where she attended Duke University in the city after graduating from Durham University in the UK in 2013.

Meanwhile Ed is enjoying some time off from his career, announcing last December that he wouldn't be playing shows for some time following his epic worldwide Multiply tour, before confirming his total break from his music and social media.

He wrote on Twitter: 'I'm taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.'

However, not all is well on the career front as the talented star is being sued for $20million (£13.7M) over copyright - and the attorney in the case just won the Marvin Gaye lawsuit over infringement on Blurred Lines.

Career break: Meanwhile Ed is enjoying some time off from his career, announcing last December that he would be taking a total break from his music and social media

Ed has been accused of making a 'note-for-note copy' of a Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard song called Amazing, released by X Factor winner Matt Cardle six years ago.

Ed's song Photograph came out in 2014 as part of the No. 2 album Multiply and was most recently been used in the soundtrack for big screen romance Me Before You.

In court documents obtained by MailOnline in June, Harrington and Leonard, along with HaloSongs, can be seen to bring an action against Ed and co-writer Johnny McDaid, from Snow Patrol.

They are specifically accused of, 'participating in a scheme aiding, inducing, and contributing to copyright infringement in the U.S.'

Harrington and Leonard therefore believe that their song has been copied by Sheeran.

It was originally released by Matt, who won British TV talent competition The X Factor in 2010, though Amazing charted at No84 in UK.

Meanwhile, joining Cara at her birthday bash- which featured live sex performers- was her Suicide Squad co-star Margot Robbie, model pal Suki Waterhouse and her sister Poppy Delevigne.
