Kansas lawmaker's son is killed on water side at Schlitterbahn Water Park

Caleb Schwab, 10, center, died in an accident while on a 168-foot slide - dubbed the world's tallest - at a water park in Kansas City, Kansas. Police spokesman Officer Cameron Morgan said the boy died Sunday at the Schlitterbahn Water Park, which is known for its 17-story Verruckt water slide (left and right). Caleb is the son of Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives Scott Schwab (inset). The family's pastor released a statement on behalf of the Schwab family thanking the community for their outpouring of support during this tragedy. The Verruckt water slide has been closed pending a full investigation. A spokeswoman for the water park said the park's rides are inspected every day and are checked by independent inspection agencies at the beginning of the season. She confirmed that Caleb died while on the ride but couldn't say if he fell from the slide when he was killed. Police are still investigating and the exact cause of death is unknown.

Chaos for air passengers worldwide as Delta systems collapse causing massive delays

UPDATED The glitch caused a global computer failure that meant none of the airline's planes anywhere in the world could take off for more than five hours on Monday morning. Huge queues have been building at airports, including major transport hubs in the United States, while other travelers were forced to wait on the tarmac as Delta desperately tried to resolve the issue. At 8:40am ET, two hours after the outage was first reported, Delta said the problem had been fixed and they would be starting with 'limited departures'. But they still warned that passengers will be facing huge wait times on Monday as they tried to overcome the huge backlog of flights. The carrier operates almost 15,000 daily flights, carrying an average of 550,000 daily passengers during the summer. And the company's Twitter feed has been inundated by angry passengers who are hoping to travel today but can't even check in for their flights. Among the airports where passengers have been reporting delays are Orlando International, Washington-Baltimore all the New York City hubs, Fiumicino Airport in Rome, London Heathrow and Frankfurt Airport in Germany.

Photograph showing Egyptian and German Olympic volleyball players highlights divide

Pictures show the cultural differences among some of the nations taking part in the Rio Olympics after the Egyptian women's beach volleyball team took to the sandy arena wearing long sleeves and leggings. The outfit, used by Nada Meawad and Doaa Elghobashy, who also covered her head with a hijab, was in stark contrast to their German rivals Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst who stuck to the sport's traditional two-piece outfit for the clash last night. Although the International Volleyball Federation used to have standards regulating the size of uniforms, those were loosened heading into the London 2012 Olympics to allow full sleeves and leggings. Toddler with a 'ticking timebomb' growing on her leg takes first steps without limping

Athelia Blanton-Latta, from Missouri, had a vascular malformation, a large tangle of blood vessels which put her at risk of a heart attack. Even a small cut risked her bleeding to death. She was born with what looked like a large birthmark on her leg (left) but which grew as she did (middle). It meant she struggled to walk unaided and made her mother terrified she would knock it. The two-year-old has now undergone surgery which removed 95 per cent of the growth and is expected to go on and lead a normal life. 'The difference is she won't struggle to walk, will have full mobility of her legs and there was no damage to her muscles from surgery so she'll recover really well,' said mother, Jessica.
