It is fair to say that most 30th birthday parties include some lavish celebrations, but particularly if you happen to be the heir to an oil empire.

Mike Hess, heir to the multi-million dollar Hess family fortune, was filmed living it up at his birthday party in the Hamptons this weekend as he partied with the likes of Taylor Swift and Nelly.

At one point Hess joined Nelly on stage for a duet of Shake Ya Tailfeather, before Swift planted a kiss on his cheek as she helped out on Nelly's Dilemma.

Hess was born into one of America's wealthiest families as the son of John B Hess, CEO of energy giant Hess Corp, which he inherited from his own father Leon.

Hess has evidently known Swift for a while, judging from a post on friend and model Heidi Klum's Instagram from 21 months ago.

It shows the pair hugging along with Taylor and another of her model friends, Karlie Kloss, while watching the New York Knicks, where Hess has been pictured ringside in the past.

During her own performance, Taylor, 26, made her way to oil heir Mike Hess before planting a kiss on his cheek, stroking his neck, and dancing with him as well.

Klum also later uploaded a video of Hess rapping alongside Nelly to 2003 song Shake Ya Tailfeather.

According to an insider who spoke to E!, Swift was in a celebratory mood but was reluctant to perform until Nelly beckoned her on to the stage to sing Dilemma.

'I know you know that song,' Nelly told her, according to Page Six.

Within moments Taylor had taken the microphone and sang over Kelly Rowland's part in the 2002 hit.

After performing, Taylor spent the night with her model chum Karlie Kloss, who celebrated her 24th birthday on Thursday.

For her party attire, Taylor displayed her tummy in a black, cropped, off-the-shoulder top paired with a high waist skirt and trainers.

The Hess family fortune comes largely from Amerada Hess, created after Leon took over his family's failing gas business during the Great Recession.

Over the course of his lifetime, he turned it into one of the largest gas and oil retailers in America, working there until 1995 when he stood down as CEO and allowed son John to take over.

Hess appears to have been friends with Taylor's crowd for a while, as revealed by this snap taken almost two years ago at a Knicks game, alongside Klum and fellow model Karlie Kloss

Leon still came to the office each day until he was hospitalized in 1999, dying a short time later at the age of 85 and leaving behind a fortune of some $720million.

He was perhaps best known for his unwavering ownership of the New York Jets, never selling despite a their often lackluster performances.

His son's tenure at the helm of Hess Corporation has been tumultuous, including power struggles with the board that have limited the family's stake in the company.

In 2014 he was reported by Bloomberg to have joined the billionaire's club, though his worth is thought to have dropped back since then as stock values have fallen.

Like his father, Mike Hess is a graduate of Harvard Business School, where he was rumored to be part of the college's secretive boy's club, dubbed Section X.

Largely made up of wealthy Asian and Middle Eastern students, Section X is known for throwing no-expense-spared parties at exclusive destinations around the world, according to the New York Times.

'I don't get why it's illegal to own a cheetah in our country. So stupid.'
