What next for Mata under Mourinho? First he was pushed out at Chelsea, now he is a sub being subbed as United boss rebuilds
JONNY SINGER: There are few managers who understand symbolic gestures as well as Jose Mourinho. He knows what quotes will make the back page. He knows what people will say when he leaves the bench early, three points seemingly secure. And he certainly knows the implications of substituting a player only brought on 26 minutes earlier. So when he handed Juan Mata football's ultimate embarrassment, Manchester United's new manager would have been aware that it would, once again, call into question his relationship with the Spanish playmaker.

Paul Pogba may be the name on everyone's lips as far as Manchester United are concerned, but another piece of business they have done this summer could turn out to be the most important. It speaks for the state of the transfer market that £30million can be described as a fraction of a fee.

Did Big Sam have a Big Mac? England boss surprises staff at McDonald's drive-thru in Bolton
In his new role as England manager, Sam Allardyce will be keen to make sure his players are at their peak in terms of diet and fitness. No visits to McDonald's then, you'd assume. But for the 61-year-old himself, that rule does not seem to apply, as he was only too happy to pose for a photo when he popped into the Astley Bridge chain at the weekend. In an image posted to the McDonald's Bolton Twitter page, Allardyce smiled from the window of his Range Rover as he passed through the drive-thru for a quick refreshment.

Rowing halted due to strong winds with concerns the event could be cancelled as Redgrave warns: Will we get any finals?
MIKE DICKSON IN RIO: The second day of Olympic rowing descended into farce as 'dramatic' winds forced racing to be postponed for 24 hours. The crosswinds whipped up such treacherous waves over the mid-section of the course at the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon that two boats capsized during early morning training runs, and after several delays the organisers called it off at 10.30am. There are now fears of a severe backlog of races building up over the next few days with the gusting conditions expected to be unpredictable until at least the middle of the week.
Boardman criticises 'dangerous' course after Dutch cyclist is left in intensive care
Chris Boardman accused the Olympic organisers of designing a dangerous course after the leader of the women's road race was taken to intensive care with concussion and three cracked bones in her spine after a horror crash yesterday. Annemiek van Vleuten appeared to be racing to gold after leading over the final climb and dropping American Mara Abbott on the treacherous descent some six miles from the finish. But the Dutchwoman became a victim of the same dangerous hairpins that claimed the two leaders of the men's road race the previous day, with former Tour de France winner Vincenzo Nibali left nursing a double fracture of the collarbone. Aussie Richie Porte also broke a shoulder blade.
Djokovic left in tears after world No 1 is knocked out in first round by Del Potro
World No 1 Novak Djokovic crashed out of the Olympic men's singles in the first round on Sunday, losing in straight sets to Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro. Djokovic, who also lost to Del Potro in the bronze medal play-off in London in 2012, had no answer to the power of the 2009 US Open champion, who sealed a 7-6, 7-6 victory in almost two and a half hours.
Brazil fans boo their own team after Neymar and Co fail to beat Iraq in another stalemate
Brazil's fans jeered their own team and saved their applause for Iraq after the two sides drew 0-0 in their Olympic clash in Brasilia. The host nation, who have never won Olympic gold, failed to secure three points in Group A for the second consecutive game after an opening-day draw with South Africa. The result leaves Brazil tied for second place and they require a victory over Denmark on Wednesday in Salvador to advance and avoid another huge embarrassment at home, two years after the 7-1 loss to Germany in the World Cup semi-finals.

And then he stole the hearts of the Swedish crowd, posing for a selfie with an infant pitch invader in the closing stages.

Sinclair scores winner on Celtic debut to see off Hearts at Tynecastle
The best things come to those who wait. Celtic's pursuit of Scott Sinclair lasted a number of weeks, spawned four unsuccessful bids and finished up costing a sum of around £3.5million. In a frantic finale to a pulsating encounter at Tynecastle the chase paid off. The former Aston Villa man had only been on the pitch 23 minutes as a substitute when he calmly tucked a precise Leigh Griffiths cross past Hearts keeper Jack Hamilton. A suited Brendan Rodgers sprinted down the touchline, racing past the Hearts technical area before checking himself. The Northern Irishman changed his tactics late in the game to chase the win.

American Furyk cards stunning 58 to record the lowest round ever in PGA Tour history
They're already calling him 'Mr 58' in America after Jim Furyk became the first man in the history of the PGA Tour to record such a score following an incredible round at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut on Sunday. Almost 40 years after Al Geiberger became the first man to shoot 59, and after an estimated 1.5 million rounds played, the veteran Furyk earned himself a unique place in golf lore with a card featuring one eagle, 11 birdies and seven pars. Not usually the most demonstrative of golfers, Furyk showed just what it meant to him at the end, as he raised his arms in triumph and pumped his fists. 'A small piece of golf history - that's what all golfers dream about,' said the 46 year old. 'All the great rounds by all the great players and now I've got something I can call my own.'

Inside the mind of Zlatan: Ibra was once a cocky teen who called English football 'c**p' (but nearly ended up at Middlesborough)... but has evolved into the ultimate ego
MAGNUS GERTTEN, CO-DIRECTOR OF BECOMING ZLATAN: I remember the first time I saw Zlatan. It was in the summer of 1999 and I was standing at Malmo's training ground talking to one of the first-team defenders, a rather unsophisticated Swedish player who specialised in kicking the ball into the stands whenever it went near him. He pointed to a young, tall guy standing by himself, kicking the ball. 'That's the new player in the first-team squad. He's the most talented young player I've ever seen. Unfortunately he will not go far. He doesn't have the mental capacity to make it.'
