He's yet to start a family with wife Cameron Diaz who he married 18 months ago.

But Benji Madden appeared to be honing his childcare skills on Saturday when he was spotted out running errands in Los Angeles.

The 37-year-old was spotted stringing his nephew Sparrow Madden along for a trip to a Ralphs supermarket in Studio City.

The Good Charlotte guitarist dressed unseasonably for the August weather. His faded black full-sleeved shirt hung open over a black T-shirt and black cargo pants.

A dog tag dangled from his neck, emphasising a spray of tattoos. A second necklace, this one black, matched his black earrings.

With a black and orange baseball cap over his head, the Maryland native kept a tight grip on the six-year-old's hand as they crossed the car park with their shopping.

Madden is Sparrow's uncle by way of his identical twin Joel Madden.

Good Charlotte's lead singer and Nicole Richie, his wife of six years, also have an eight-year-old daughter named Harlow.

Meanwhile, Diaz married her Madden twin last January in their Beverly Hills home.

Though they have yet to have children, he suggested to WHO Magazine last June that he was not opposed to the idea. 'I have a great family, so I'm lucky I've gotten to experience all the joys of having a family,' he said. 'So I love kids, yeah.'

In 2014, the Charlies Angels star had told Esquire that 'I was never drawn to being a mother.' This February, however, a source confided in People that the 43-year-old 'is feeling fulfilled and wants to be a mom.'
