Social media may have been banned at President Obama's top secret birthday bash, but some stars still showed off their invites with snaps before and after the event.

NBA icon Magic Johnson shared a sweet picture of him and wife Cookie dressed in their best as they headed to the White House party.

Cookie Johnson tweeted out the same picture, wishing Obama a happy birthday and warning him that she was wearing her dancing shoes.

Al Roker and his wife Deborah Roberts, an ABC News correspondent, shared a sweet snap of themselves outside the White House, as did the Rev Al Sharpton and his stylist girlfriend Aisha McShaw.

It seems Nick Jonas went straight from his concert in St Louis, Missouri to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on Friday night.

'Tonight was a night I will never forget. #BarackObama #happybirthday,' the singer, who is currently on tour with Demi Lovato, tweeted after midnight.

Legendary Star Wars director George Lucas was photographed entering the party, although it appeared he made a pit stop to sign an autograph for one lucky fan.

And White House journalist April Ryan turned into a fan herself, making sure to score a selfie with Ellen DeGeneres as they both walked out of the party early Saturday.

Johnson wasn't the only NBA great in attendance. Grant Hill and his wife, Canadian signer Tamia, also made an appearance at the bash planned by Michelle Obama.

Obama may have been the guest of honor but both Hill and Tamia excitedly shared a picture they took with Susan Rice, the US Ambassador to the United Nations.

Tamia also showed off the couple's fashionable attire in a snap after the event, writing: 'About to shut it down after an amazing night at the White House with @realgranthill at @barackobama 55th Birthday party celebration.'

Pictures have yet to trickle in of the A-list celebrities who were slated to attend the exclusive bash, which was paid for by the Obamas and not taxpayer dollars.

Beyonce, Jay-Z, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker all planned to make an appearance, according to Page Six

Stevie Wonder and Usher were also at the party, where they serenaded guests with performances that went late into the night, according to Ryan.

Michelle also reportedly invited Kendrick Lamar, her husband's favorite rapper, as well as Jason Wu - her favorite fashion designer.

Hillary Clinton was set to take a break from campaigning to celebrate with her old friend, and Vice President Joe Biden was also slated to attend.

Earlier in the week Biden commemorated Obama's birthday by posting a sweet picture on Twitter of friendship bracelets that read 'Joe' and 'Barack'.

They weren't just any bracelets either. Biden chose to post the same ones that the birthday boy struggled to make in the Buzzfeed video 5 Things That Are Harder Than Registering To Vote,  released earlier this year.

Donna Brazile, the Interim Chair of the DNC, was also spotted heading into the White House on Friday, as was former senior adviser David Axelrod.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Obama's former chief of staff and a close friend of the family, was later snapped leaving the party.

The entire evening was planned by Michelle, who kept everything top secret and made sure the party was all about her husband, who turned 55 on Thursday.

'All the preparations and the guest list are being kept top-secret. The plan is to throw a party for the president to really let his hair down,' said a source.

'There will be performances and a dance party that will go late into the night. Social media will be banned.'

This low-key approach means that guests will not be treated to dinner at the event, and are being urged to eat beforehand.

On Saturday Obama headed to Martha's Vineyard for his family's annual summer trip.

His vacation comes at the same time as the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Obama has already announced he will be skipping the games and sending Secretary of State John Kerry in his place.

That decision gives President Obama a perfect record of never once attending an Olympic Games during his time in the Oval Office.

Vice President Biden was sent to represent the United States at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver while the First Lady was given that same role two years later at the 2012 Summer Games in London.

No one from the White House attended the 2014 Sochi Games in Russia, with President Obama instead sending a delegation of American athletes that included openly gay tennis great Billie Jean King.

That move was in response to an anti-gay law introduced around that time in the country which banned the 'propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations to minors.'
