Smouldering Zayn Malik 'hypnotises' fans with artistic electro-inspired music video for Cruel

There was extremely high praise for Zayn Malik when the hotly-anticipated Cruel music video dropped on Tuesday.

Fans claimed they'd been hypnotised by the crazy aesthetics and electro-inspired artistic direction of his latest musical offering; which is a collaboration with Snakehips.

And while Pillowtalk was bolstered by the appearance of his supermodel girlfriend Gigi Hadid, Cruel focused solely on the former One Direction star.

'This boy, this voice, this video, everything is absolutly art (sic)' said one excited fan on Twitter.

Smouldering Zayn is found in a smokey backalley dance venue, where he can be seen on the screen of every flickering television.

As the video loops through TV sets and spirals into different rooms, the former boyband hunk gets distracted by a pretty brunette.

'I can't concentrate,' he sings. 'I just see your eyes, back where we left off. Why'd you take your dress off?

'I've been by myself remembering you. Your body hurts me, looping round like CCTV.'

The steamy lyrics describe an 'Venus in Converse', which many will compare to his Victoria's Secret model girlfriend Gigi.

Zayn describes being at a party with a dead end actress 'and then there's you.'

It strikes up some similarities with when Zayn is said to have started 'pursuing' Gigi, following a meet at Kylie Jenner's 18th birthday at Bootsy Bellows in Los Angeles, in August 2015.

Unlike Pillowtalk, where Gigi and Zayn later packed on the PDA for the cameras, Cruel sees Zayn quite taken with a stunning brunette, who he finally talks to at the end.

'Should've been more screen time for @zaynmalik but the #cruel MV is perfect,' said one fan, who was not satisfied with Zayn's wall-to-wall air time.

Zayn seemed to have been inspired by the electronic vibes of his dance duo collaborators, Oliver Lee and James Carter - otherwise known as Snakehips.

'Good video Zayn,' said one entertained fan. 'The effects are hypnotizing me love, if all or most was your idea for video, you're a crazy aesthetic #cruel'
