Laurie Hernandez scored a 15.233 on the beam, as Aly Raisman scored a 15.000 and Biles scored a 15.300.

Madison Kocian scored 15.933 on the uneven bars finishing off the rotation for Team USA. Following close behind was Gabby Douglas, who scored 15.766 on the uneven bars.

That was the only individual event for Douglas, who was an all-around gold medalist for the 2012 games in London.

Hernandez, 16, went first on the vault scoring 15.100. Next Raisman and Biles went next on the vault and scored 15.833 and 15.933, respectively.

Team USA went from the 'Fierce Five' nickname to the 'Final Five,' since the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo will only have four people per team competing for gymnastics. Raisman later explained it was partly a tribute to their coach Martha Karolyi, who is retiring after Rio. Raisman also called her a 'gymnastics god'.

Biles' family talked of their pride Tuesday night as she became the little darling of American sport.

They revealed she had no nerves at all in the hours before the gold was decided and the tension was with them instead.

They watched in awe as the teenager led her team to gold in the Olympic arena in the artistic gymnastics.

Biles and her team mates were flawless as they walked away with the gold, beating out Russia and China.

Speaking in a press conference after the dominant win, Biles said the team was 'so successful because we believe in ourselves. Our team believes in each other.'

'It hasn´t been easy but we have done everything we could have done to get where we are,' she said.

‘Personally I don't think I felt pressure. I have this wonderful team behind me.’

Asked what her biggest challenge ahead was, she said: ‘There is no biggest challenge.

‘The hardest part is to go back to training and to keep pushing. We all have finals. But the hardest challenge now is getting to sleep because we are so excited.’

The Texas native's mother Nellie told Daily Mail Online: ‘For her to come to the Olympics and achieving means the world to her and to us as a family.

‘It has been one of her goals and one of her dreams for many, many years. This is unbelievable, just unbelievable.’

Simone’s father Ronald said: ‘I am overjoyed, speechless and just happy for Team USA I want to give her a big hug kiss.

‘She has worked very hard for his and has been doing this now for 13 years. She has put a lot of pounding on her body.

‘But you can see that she is really enjoying it too.

Asked how it felt to be the father of an Olympic champion, he said: ‘That is a good question. I have to get used to it first.’

Nellie added: ‘We are proud of her and this morning she told me she was feeling fine and relaxed and that always make me know that things are fine with Simone.

‘She was not nervous…I am the one who is more nervous than Simone. She knows that I am a wreck.

‘Once we get home it will sink in and I don’t know how we are going to react. It is going to be draining by the time we get home.’

Her sister Adria,17, also a former gymnast, said: ’I told Simone to kick butt today and she did.’

Other parents of the gold-winning team were also incredulous at the win.

Anthony Hernandez, of, said: ‘I am extremely proud. We are still trying to get to grips with it as it is all new to us, But we are so proud of Laurie.’

Mr Hernandez, a Manhattan Supreme court clerk from New Jersey, summed up his 16-year-old daughter’s attributes as : ‘strength, faith, integrity and being wonderful.’

He added: ‘What you see in her smile and her joy of life, that is Laurie. We are used to it because we see her everyday with her love of life.’

Caroline Douglas, grandmother of Gabby Douglas said she was 'thrilled' and the team had done a 'marvelous' job.

‘I went through all this tension in London 2012 when she won her first gold medal and it wasn’t as bad this time.

'I have been there before and I don’t think we are going there again. I think she is done. Two Olympics is a lot. But two team gold medals is amazing.

That is gold medal number one…four more to go!'
Simone Biles' uncle Dale Biles

‘I looked at her today and thought ‘ when did you grow up, you were just a baby. She is 20 now.

‘It is not retirement age for most people, but if she wanted to compete at the Olympics again, I would be there for her to support her.

‘But she says she thinks this is it. But that is her decision, so it may not be.’

Douglas herself later said: 'I have found great joy again. It's amazing to be out there and to experience this with these wonderful girls.'

Simone’s brother Adam said: ‘Absolutely we’re proud of her. Its difficult to find the words.’

Her second brother Ronald Jr laughed, saying she was tiny, but she was a powerful woman.

‘As siblings we fight all the time, but we love her and are very proud of her.’

The media spotlight has fallen largely on Biles as she wows crowds and aims to bring home five gold medals, but he said this was not a problem with the other four.

Her score of 62.366 was well clear of teammate Aly Raisman. So much for the butterflies in her stomach.

'I do a very good job at hiding it,' Biles said. 'The team, we just calm it down.'

Biles is right on target to win five gold medals, as she is the favorite to win the vault, beam, and floor.

'Simone is Simone,' US national women's team coordinator Martha Karolyi said, according to CNN

'She is a big talent, but she proved also at controlling herself and how she is able to perform under pressure.

'There's a reason why she's three-time world champion. Simone is doing gymnastics because she wants to prove to the world how good she is.'

All five women earned a spot in either the all-around or event finals, or in the case of Biles and Raisman, both.

Raisman, a three-time Olympic medalist four years ago, grabbed the second spot in the individual all-around for the Americans by edging reigning Olympic champion Gabby Douglas thanks in part to what Raisman called 'the best bar routine of my life.'

Rules limit each country to two gymnasts per event in the all-around and event finals, meaning even though Douglas was third overall, she'll miss out on a chance to defend the crown she won in London.

Not that she was moping. When Raisman drilled her dismount on beam, Douglas rose from her chair and gave her a hug.

A controversial selection to the five-woman team after a so-so performance at Olympic trials, Douglas validated Karolyi's choice with steady performances all over, including a bars set that earned her a spot in the individual finals.

'She said 'I believe in you, and you can go out and do it,'' Douglas said. 'At the end of the day that means so much ... because she's very precise. It feels good.'

The women's gymnastics team is on a winning streak, as they won gold during the London Olympics in 2012.

They also won team gold at the world championships three consecutive times, 2011, 2014 and 2015. The team event was not held in 2013.
