The Birmingham-born Star Wars legend, 83, passed away today according to family members after suffering from prolonged lung problems. Baker played the resourceful droid known for his whistles and beeps in the original 'Star Wars' movie in 1977 and in the five following movies. He also received a credit in last year's 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', and attended the European premiere in London in December in a wheelchair. However Anthony Daniels, who played R2-D2's on-screen friend C3PO and with whom Baker had a frosty relationship dating back decades, said he was never actually on set. The latest instalment of the franchise, 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story', is due out in December.

Police were called to the George Inn, in the village of Burnham, in Buckinghamshire, shortly after midnight to reports a man had been attacked inside the pub.

Pallbearers making their way from Inverness, Scotland, to the late Duke of Westminster's funeral on board his £5million private jet had to evacuate his plane after the cockpit filled with smoke. Five passengers were on board the Citation 750 aircraft when the emergency services were called after the incident at Inverness Airport yesterday. It has been reported that two of the passengers were due to carry the coffin of Gerald Grosvenor, who died from a heart attack on Tuesday aged 64. Emergency services were called to the airport after the pilot suspected a technical fault with the plane. The private jet - which belonged to the duke - is thought to have had an air conditioning problem which caused the cockpit to fill with smoke. A Highlands and Island Airports Limited (Hial) spokesman said: 'The pilot of a Citation 750 private aircraft reported a suspected technical fault during pre-flight checks ahead of take-off from Inverness Airport.' It comes as his family revealed a 'quiet private' service was held on Friday.

The shocking incident was captured on a security camera from a home in Ashford, Kent and shows the elderly man walking up the driveway to the front of the Audi. He then places his key just next to the headlight before scraping it along the paintwork in clear view of the security camera. The man causes visible damage as he drags the key towards the car door before walking back up the driveway and leaving the area.

Philippines man is found alive amid the rubble of his home after a monsoon

These pictures show the incredible moment a man (main and inset) was pulled out of the rubble alive after a concrete wall collapsed on four shanty homes in Manila, Philippines. Two teenage girls, who were also rescued from the debris on Saturday, have since died from their injuries according to local reports. An unknown number of residents remain trapped underneath the rubble, which is thought to be home to around 20 people.

The reptile -- which was 8 feet, 9 inches long -- was discovered by Doug Dallmer in his garage on Thursday night. Police in Fulshear say the creature is headed to an alligator farm.

Midwife at the wedding of a man she delivered 30 years ago

Community midwife Christine McDermot was 27 when she delivered baby Tom Archer after he was born in 1987. She grew close to the family and kept in touch with Mr Archer when he moved from Lancashire to Edinburgh to become a copper. So when Mrs McDermot retrained as a registrar and Mr Archer proposed to girlfriend Katie Black, he asked her to travel 250 miles to officiate at his wedding in Fife. Now the 56-year-old can boast to not only watching over Mr Archer as a baby, but also telling him: 'You can now kiss the bride'.
