Being the child of a celebrity is not always a recipe for happiness.

But on Thursday, Kate Hudson reminded Instagram followers how tightly knit her clan is.

She uploaded a decades-old photo of herself as a child with her blended clan: Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, Oliver Hudson, Boston Russell and Wyatt Russell.

The Almost Famous Oscar-nominee, now blonde, had a mane of brown curls in the snapshot. The Shampoo star let her own platinum blonde hair fall around her trapezoid sunglasses and over her white tank top.

Doing the classic mother photograph move - gathering her children round to hide her midsection - Hawn was still the image of glamour as they stood in front of a hilly, verdant landscape.

The Raising Helen actress and her older brother Oliver are Hawn's children by her second marriage. She and Bill Hudson, of The Hudson Brothers, finalised their divorce in 1982 after six years of wedlock.

The next year, Hawn fell for the Silkwood actor, who appeared in Kate's Instagram post in a grey T-shirt tucked into jeans.

Russell brought a brood of his own to the relationship: Boston, born in 1980, is the Death Proof star's son from his four-year marriage to actress Season Hubley.

The Cactus Flower Oscar-winner and the The Hateful Eight star, despite never marrying, conceived a biological child of their own. Wyatt, the youngest child, peering at the camera from the back of the crowd, was born in 1986.

Kate and Oliver have clearly shifted their affections firmly from their biological father to the Escape From New York star. Kate refers to him as 'Pa,' and on Father's Day last year, Oliver wished Bill Hudson a 'Happy abandonment day.'

The Nine actress captioned the photo, '#tbt OG Squad ��.'

Hawn recently broke a 15-year retirement from film to play Amy Schumer's mother in an upcoming comedy set in South America.

Scumer, who's also co-writing the movie, revealed to the Los Angeles Times that Hawn was unfamiliar with her before signing on for the project. 'I met her on an airplane a couple of years ago and told her there's a movie I really want to make with her. And she was very nice. "OK, honey."

'She probably thought I was a psycho. "OK, crazy person." Then I’d meet her at different things, saying, “We’re making this movie together,” and I think, eventually, some people got in her ear and told her I wasn't crazy, that I make things,' Schumer explained.
