First legs, then shoulders now CLEAVAGE: Helen Skelton flashes her curves in a plunging boho dress - a day after dressing from head to toe in black

  • Helen has been showcasing plenty of fashion-forward looks
  • Thursday's dress showcased her cleavage - and her fans were delighted
  • Made a change from demure covered-up look a day earlier
  • Recently enlisted Cara Delevingne's stylist to help curate her looks
  • Mixes high-end dresses with high-street footwear

She may have played it safe in a conservative black outfit on Wednesday but Helen Skelton was back to her sartorial best on Thursday night.

The former Blue Peter star, who is presenting the BBC's coverage of the swimming, has attracted attention with her fashion-forward outfits, which she duly documents on Instagram under the hashtag #outfitoftheday.

And for her latest stint on the show, Helen certainly got her social media followers talking as she plumped for a rather revealing purple and blue boho dress, which was slashed at the cleavage.

The chic dress, which was cut open to reveal her chest, had lace panels and tassels and was designed by little-known designer To Be Adored London. She offset the look with her trust crushed velvet boors from high street e-tailer, Daisy Street.

'You always make it that little bit more exciting to watch,' gushed one Instagram fan, whilst another hailed her 'cute, as always.'

The more playful look made a change from the outfit she'd opted for a day earlier.

For her fifth day presenting from the swimming arena at Rio, Helen chose a demure look, wearing a black and yellow crop top from Alexander Lewis and a pair of wide leg culottes from Bedouin Studios.

Helen has found herself at the centre of a social media storm this week, as people flooded Twitter to criticise her choice of outfits.

It started on Saturday night when Twitter went into meltdown after she wore a navy dress with a short skirt in the warmth of the Rio swimming arena, which many pointed out offered more than a glimpse of her enviably long legs.

Then there was a stunning orange number, which was criticised for making her look like she was about to go clubbing.

And a gorgeous white playsuit worn on day four showed off her bra, which was apparently more than some could cope with.

Others, however, have tuned into the swimming - on in the early hours of the morning - just to see the stunning presenter.

Helen's father has leapt to her defence following days of criticism over her outfit choices.

Richard Skelton was invited onto This Morning today to discuss the Twitter storm surrounding her wardrobe - and said he found the whole debate 'quite sad'.

'It's more about what women do,' he told hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes. 'Why do we always have to comment on women's clothes?'

But it seems the sartorial furore isn't all 33-year-old Skelton's doing, as she has also had some help from celebrity stylist Cobbie Yates.

The stylist, who has previously worked with Cara Delevingne, Jessie J and Justin Bieber, has hand-picked a selection of dresses for her to unveil throughout the Olympics - and looking as good as Skelton doesn't come cheap.

FEMAIL has calculated that the style savvy presenter's Olympic wardrobe comes in at more than £2,000.

Helen has notably turned to the same few brands to curate a showstopping Olympic wardrobe, most notably Whistles, Edeline Lee and footwear brand Public Desire.

Helen kicked off proceedings in a tailored, ladylike number by Zeynep Kartal, which was part of the designer’s S/S16 collection.

The dress isn't available to buy and, according to the designer, the price is available 'upon request' but similar styles retail for around £700. She teamed the look with a simple pair of rose gold sandals as she posed on Instagram with Rebecca Adlington.

The outfit, which was daringly short, left a few viewers hot under the collar, with many taking to social media to comment on how revealing the dress was.

She later changed into a more conservative white lace dress by Whistles - the Ailsa Placement Lace Dress is £195 and described by the brand as 'feminine and contemporary'.

Central Saint Martins graduate Edeline Lee cut her teeth at Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Zac Posen before launching her eponymous collection in 2014. Since then the likes of Alicia Vikander, Taylor Swift, Pixie Lott and Solange Knowles have all worn her designs, and now Helen can add her name to the list.

Viewers who stayed up until past 2am to watch Britain's gold medal win in the swimming seemed more concerned by Helen's choice of attire.

Her next choice of outfit was possibly her most fashion-forward - a pair of £430 Edeline Lee Fractual Culottes teamed with a midriff-baring crop top and simple Kurt Geiger heels, which cost around £100

Commenting on her ensemble, one viewer tweeted: 'Helen Skelton must be going clubbing after this with that dress on.'

The ensemble also inspired some viewers who weren't so keen on the sport to stay on the channel, with one quipping: 'The swimming just got interesting!'

Another agreed: 'Wasn't that bothered about the swimming. Am now. Is all.'

Some seemed not to see the situation as a laughing matter, with one tweeting: 'The @BBCSport presenter #HelenSkelton needs to wear appropriate clothing to present swimming. Many ppl don't want a nightclub mini dress #bbc [sic].

It sparked an uproar on Twitter, as many users leapt to her defence and pointed out that it was hot in Rio.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘If you’re struggling to concentrate on the sport because a woman has a pair of legs, it says more about you than her.’

Another added: ‘Dear Helen, you’re a human being. Wear whatever the f*** you like. Nobody has the right to tell you otherwise.’

Another said: ‘People getting their knickers in a twist literally over Helen Skelton showing a bit of leg. So what. The woman’s in Rio. Bit hot there.’

Speaking about her new sense of style, stylist and founder of Want Her Wardrobe, Lydia Jones, said: 'Helen has really come a long way since her kids' TV presenting days. She's ditched the countrified sloane garb and made some serious headway with the hottest trends this summer.

'She may have had some flack for flashing too much flesh but there's no denying that she looks amazing and it's not like she's wearing a mini skirt day in day out - just look at what our favourite A-listers wear and she appears rather nun-like in comparison!

She's got great legs but it's time to put them away and for viewers to concentrate on her talent! - Nick Ede, Brand Expert

'Recruiting an esteemed celebrity stylist is a seriously smart move and has allowed her to tap into some of the freshest design talent months before everyone else catches on. She proves she can finely balance fresh and edgy one day and conservative and classy the next.'

Darren Kennedy, TV presenter and Specsavers Style Ambassador, said: 'I think Helen looks fantastic and all her outfits are pretty much on point.

'Obviously the shorter skirts have got people talking recently, so if Helen wanted to opt for a more pared down look but still keep cool in the Brazilian heat, off the shoulder dresses are a big trend right now – they’re loose fitting but still have a really feminine edge.

'Bright, vibrant colours are a great way to have a little bit of fun and reflect some more of Helen’s personality. But it would also be nice to see her in some softer neutrals like white and beige, or even pastel shades like baby blue and blush pink – they’ll help her keep cool while still looking super chic.'

Brand expert Nick Ede added: 'It's great to see that Helen is bringing some glamour to the Games with her wardrobe. I didn’t like her spaghetti strap dress - it didn’t look good on TV and the pattern wasn’t good for her body shape. I think it's important to consider what a viewer will see and also that she is sitting down for her discussions so you only see half of her outfit.

'I think Helen could become a champion of the high street by wearing cool styles that accentuate her natural beauty. She would also do well with big patterns and block colours.
