Tom Hiddleston jumped into the modern world of communication by opening an Instagram account on Tuesday.

And it may have taken him a few days to work it out, but he's now following his girlfriend Taylor Swift, according to Just Jared.

Taylor followed the 35-year-old right back but they have yet to post snaps of one another - the official sign of a loved-up couple.

They must be an item: Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift, pictured at LAX on July 6, became Instagram friends on Friday, the social media blessing that proves they are a couple

The 26-year-old pop superstar was the first person he followed on Friday along with 16 other friends.

The pair have been dating since meeting at the Met Gala in New York in May.

Amazingly, the 35-year-old Thor actor already has 789,000 followers even though he has just one post of himself as Loki, the Asgardian God of Mischief, Madness and Evil.

She's his No. 1: Taylor was the first person the British actor friended on Instagram

Taylor was among Tom‘s friends, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, who welcomed him to social media on Tuesday, some in a hilarious way.

Robert Downey Jr had a laugh at his Avengers co-star's expense as he mocked the Brit's debut on Instagram.

He posted a picture of the actor wearing his infamous 'I heart T.S.' vest, the initials standing for Taylor Swift.

Making up for his earlier joke: Robert chose a steamy still of himself as Tony Stark in a foundry and superimposed the words 'I heart Loki' on the vest

The 51-year-old captioned the image of Tom frolicking in the surf: 'Join me in welcoming the biggest T. Stark fan of them all to Instagram!'

The actors' characters Iron Man (aka Tony Stark) and Loki famously came to blows in the 2012 The Avengers movie.

And showing that he has a wonderfully self-deprecating sense of humour, on Wednesday Robert took the mickey out of himself.

He superimposed the words 'I heart Loki' on the vest he wore in a very steamy still of himself as Tony Stark in a foundry and shared it with his 10.8 million followers.
