On a Portrait of a Woman by Hovsep
Pushman, by Harold Bell
Wright, 1919.
Hovsep
Pushman (1877-1966), an important Armenian/American artist
whom Wright apparently met while they were both living at the
Mission Inn in Riverside, California, painted a picture of a woman
(probably his wife) and presented
the painting to Wright as a gift.
Wright hand-lettered this poem of thanks on one large
(poster-sized) sheet of paper, which until recently was displayed in the Harold Bell Wright Museum in Branson, MO.,
near the painting itself. Wright then made a few very
ornate booklets which included a small reproduction of the painting and
a copy of Wright's poem. He gave those copies to friends.
The only such copy I am aware of is in the New York Public
Library.
