Sacked Criminal Minds star Thomas Gibson 'believes writer Virgil Williams isn't so innocent himself following on-set violence'

Criminal Minds star Thomas Gibson reportedly believes writer Virgil Williams, who he kicked on-set of filming, isn't quite so innocent himself.

According to TMZ, Thomas, 54, believes he has been 'wrongfully fired' from the show and acted in self-defense when he kicked Williams  and is considering using Virgil's own past to fight back.

The site claims 'ER writer Virgil got angry back in 2006, when he learned a female production assistant was going to take his spot on the show's softball team.

'He called the 22-year-old into his office, threatened her life and promised to ruin her career, although there was no sign of violence.

'Williams was suspended and had to take anger management classes, but sources claim there have been no issues in the workplace since then.'

While Thomas is said to be considering legal action, TMZ claim their stance remains and Virgil is keeping his job.

Source close to Williams said the writer strongly denied there were any threats made to her life.

MailOnline has contacted a spokesperson for Thomas Gibson for comment.

The day before, Gibson took to social media to tell fans he is 'disappointed by what's happened' following his supposed attack on Virgil Williams.

The actor, who has played the role of Special Agent Aaron Hotchner since 2005, was fired from his highly paid role by ABC Studios and CBS Television after the incident, which occurred during the production of an episode he was directing.

In a series of messages to his supporters, he said on Twitter: 'I wish I could thank each of you for your friendship & support. I love "Criminal Minds," & I'm disappointed by what's happened.

'I'm here on Twitter so we can stay connected in the days to come, and talk directly with each other.

'The support you show means the world to me and my family. This is not an ending, but a beginning as well. Thank you all.'

Gibson had been suspended for two weeks after the alleged kicking, but ABC studios confirmed to DailyMail.com last Friday he had been fired.

He is said to have been involved in a few incidents that led to his firing from the hit show.

Multiple industry sources with knowledge of the situation told Variety he had three strikes against him including the most recent incident.

In December 2010, Gibson allegedly shoved the show's assistant director Ian Woolf during a late-night location shoot.

He was reportedly ordered to take eight hours of anger management classes by the production studios.

The supposed shoving came after Gibson had filmed a chase scene in which he had to drive quickly across the bridge.

After the take, he allegedly yelled and confronted Woolf about safety concerns and Woolf yelled back. Gibson then reportedly shoved the director with both hands.

And in January 2013, the star's 'second strike' came when he pleaded no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving after being arrested on suspicion of a DUI.

While Gibson could be personable and friendly, it is claimed at other times quick to be angry.

He and his co-star Shemar Moore, who left the show at the end of last season, had a tense relationship supposedly due to his habit of arriving late on set.

Following the DUI arrest, Gibson lost the use of his driver's license for a period, forcing Criminal Minds staff to drive him to and from the set for work.

The past incidents were taken into account when it was decided he had to be axed, which presents a great difficulty to producers as he is integral to the show.

Gibson will appear in the first two episodes of the upcoming season, which were already completed prior to his suspension, but he will not return to the set to film any final scenes.
