He had just kissed gold medalist Simone Biles on the cheek, but perhaps Zac Efron should have considered if she had a boyfriend?

The 19-year-old's 'Brazilian boyfriend', Olympic gymnast Arthur Mariano, addressed Zac directly on Wednesday when he shared a sweet photo of him kissing Simone on the cheek.

'Hey @zacefron I saw her first... She is my girl,' the Brazilian athlete, 22, wrote in the caption, a message intended no doubt in jest.

'I saw her first...' Arthur went on to say how proud he was of Simone and how special she is

Arthur, who NBC says is not dating Simone, continued to heap praise upon Simone in the remainder of the caption.

'Proud of you Simone!', he continued. 'You are phenomal in whole world and special. You made history. Love u (sic).'

Zac had surprised the women of the United States Gymnastics team during an interview with Today on Tuesday night.

And Simone couldn't help but get a Snapchat video with the actor, who kissed her on the cheek when he stopped by.

The stunt was planned by NBC host Hoda Kotb after Simone told her that she had a crush on the actor, and when Kotb let the individual all-around winner know that he was coming to meet her and her teammates she said: 'If you bring him out, I think I'm gonna pass out.'

At that moment Hoda opened the door to the studio to reveal that Zac was on the other side, which resulted in a look of shock and delight from four of the young women.

The admiration is very much mutual as well, with Zac also talking at length about how amazed he is by the strong, focused and accomplished members of the Fierce Five.

'I started watching all the gymnastics, and I typically wouldn't start watching gymnastics first in the Olympics,' said Zac of his viewing habits after learning that Simone was a fan.

'And I was immediately captivated by these girls and what they were doing.'

Simone, a four-time national champion, has, naturally for an American her age, carried a torch for the High School Musical star for quite a while.

When she toured NBC Nightly News through her house in a segment aired earlier this week, she revealed a life-sized cardboard cutout of the Charlie St Cloud actor in her bedroom.

'Sometimes I used to...used to kiss him on the cheek,' she told Stephanie Gosk slightly sheepishly.

Meanwhile, Simone is being eyed up by NBC producers to compete in the next season of Dancing With The Stars.

'They would love to cast some Olympians if possible,' a source told Us Weekly.
