Tips for Riding Metro to Events

• Buy multiple farecards more quickly and easily by using the Passes/Farecards machine at Metrorail stations.
• Buy round-trip fare when first entering the system.
• Keep farecards clean and dry so they will work on the return trip home.
• When attending events at the Verizon Center, use other Metrorail stations in the vicinity, including Metro Center, Judiciary Square, and Archives.
• Listen to station and train announcements. Check the final destination displayed on the side of the train to be sure you're boarding the right train.

Metrorail Service

Nationals Park is only a half-block walk from the Navy Yard-Ballpark station on the Green line. The Nationals Ballpark entrance (West entrance) will be exit-only, starting three hours before games, and entrance-only after games. During games, the Navy Yard Station New Jersey Ave entrance (East entrance) should be used by riders traveling in the opposite direction of the crowds.

Wolf Trap, in Vienna, Va., is home to a wide array of year-round performances and educational programs. Visit the Wolf Trap website for an events calendar and ticket information. Metro’s regional partner, Fairfax Connector, provides service to Filene Center performances for the summer season, May through September.

Taking Transit to Wolf Trap from West Falls Church – on the Wolf Trap Express

1. Take the Orange Line or Metrobus Route 3T, 28A, or 28X to West Falls Church Metrorail station. If you drive to the station, parking is free weeknights when you leave the station after 10 pm, weekends and holidays.
2. Wolf Trap Express /Fairfax Connector Route 480 departs West Falls Church Metrorail station every 20 minutes. The first bus departs two hours prior to the start of each performance and last bus departs at scheduled show time.
   
3. Return service to West Falls Church Metrorail station departs Wolf Trap 20 minutes after a performance ends or no later than 11 p.m., whichever happens first.

Note: Wolf Trap Express service is to Filene Center summer performances only; there is no service to The Barns at Wolf Trap or Wolf Trap Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods.

Metrorail Service to FedEx Field

Morgan Boulevard Station on the Silver or Blue Line is the closest station to FedEx Field. The station is nine-tenths of a mile from the stadium and a pedestrian walkway offers direct access to the stadium. The Largo Town Center Metrorail station, also on the Silver or Blue Line, is one mile away from the stadium.

Parking Procedures at Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center

During events at FedEx Field, a $15 parking fee applies at Morgan Blvd and Largo Town Center stations for anyone who has not taken a qualifying Metrorail trip. Metrorail riders who use the system for qualifying trips will be charged standard parking rates at all times when they use the same SmarTrip® card used for rail travel. A qualifying trip is one that begins at a station other than Largo Town Center, Morgan Blvd, Addison Road, Capitol Heights or Benning Road. For example, a rider traveling from Stadium-Armory to Morgan Blvd has taken a qualifying trip and would pay regular parking rates ($4.50 on weekdays, free on weekends); however, a rider who boards at Largo Town Center and exits at Morgan Blvd would be subject to the $15 rate during stadium events.

The $15 rate is in effect three hours prior to event time and remains in effect until two hours after the event. This fee ensures that a market-based parking fee is charged to patrons attending these events.

The Verizon Center, between 6th, 7th, and F Streets, NW, hosts more than 200 events a year, and is home to the Washington Capitals, Mystics, and Wizards and the Georgetown Hoyas.

Normal events are scheduled to end before midnight, allowing adequate time to use Metrorail. When the occasional delay or overtime game occurs, Metrorail service will be extended. Convenient Metrorail service is available at several stations around the Verizon Center to relieve congestion. The Metrorail stations are:

RFK Stadium, located at 2400 East Capitol Street, SE, is host to DC United, other sports events, numerous concerts, religious convocations, and other special events. Ride Metro to RFK Stadium by taking Metrorail's Orange, Silver or Blue Line to Stadium-Armory, or Ride Metrobus routes D6, 96, 97 or B2.

George Mason University's Patriot Center hosts a wide array of sporting and cultural events. Visit the Patriot Center's home page for a list of upcoming events, directions, tickets, and other information. Ride Metro to the Patriot Center by taking an Orange Line train to the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station, then ride the connecting CUE buses Green 1,2 or Gold 1,2 located at the bus bays just outside the station entrance. George Washington University's Charles E. Smith Center is home to GW men's and women's basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics and many concerts and other special events. The Smith Center, which seats 5,000 spectators, serves the University as well as the neighboring Foggy Bottom community. Located just two blocks south of the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metrorail station at 22nd and G Streets, NW, Smith Center is easily accessible via Metrorail's Orange, Silver and Blue Lines.
