Alex Epstein, Founder and Director of the Center for Industrial Progress (http://centerforindustrialprogress.com/), spoke about energy and environmentalism at three universities on the East Coast.

On Monday, April 2nd, Epstein addressed a crowd at the University of North Carolina.  His speech, "The Green Blackout", explained how green energy policies were harming both America's economy and environment.

The event at UNC was sponsored by The Carolina Review (http://carolinareview.org/), a conservative student publication affiliated with CampusReform.org.  The speech accurately demonstrated, "the contradiction[s] inherent in the 'green' movement's rejection of ... effective forms of clean energy," said Chase McDonough, Editor of The Carolina Review.{C}

Epstein's speech on April 3rd at Furman University - "Why the Green Movement is Ruining America" - focused on some of the same harmful policies.  Al Gore and Furman's own David E. Shi Center for Sustainability (http://www2.furman.edu/academics/shicenter/Pages/default.aspx) were among Epstein's targets in the address.

"The green energy movement isn't trying to outcompete today's leading sources of energy; it's trying to ban them," Epstein told the audience at Furman.

On Thursday, April 5th, Epstein spoke to a final audience at Pennsylvania State University.  The speech, titled "Fracking Amazing", focused on myths about natural gas development and the fracking process.

The Penn State event garnered particular attention due to recent controversies over fracking, driven primarily by the error-laden film, "Gasland", and other environmentalist propaganda.  Pennsylvania is considered the new heart of the natural gas industry due to the Marcellus Shale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcellus_Formation).

Opposition to natural gas development, Epstein said, is motivated by environmentalists and the media "completely overblowing the risks of fracking... while completely undervaluing the benefits."

Before founding the Center for Industrial Progress, Alex Epstein was a Fellow at the Ayn Rand Institute specializing in environmental issues.  His work has been published in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Investor's Business Daily and other publications.
