Content Strategist & Sales Manager

The content strategist and sales manager will be an integral part of the Monitor’s sponsorship and foundation outreach, working to make sure our commitments to clients are executed excellently and on schedule.
The content strategist and sales manager will be the Monitor’s chief talent for producing sponsored content. In close consultation with product managers and clients, the content strategist will drive the sponsored content process from consulting with clients about objectives to project planning to delivery of excellent work across various forms (whether op-ed style posts, podcasts, multimedia projects, or coaching clients on executive presentations at our events).
The content strategist and sales manager will coordinate all of the Monitor’s sponsorship campaigns, working with sales and foundation personnel to ensure smooth delivery on all client objectives. This requires intense attention to detail and an understanding of how to best delight our clients, not just follow the letter of agreements.
An ideal candidate will be passionate about the media business, combining entrepreneurial savvy with an editorial eye for excellent stories. No task is too small for anyone on our small team so humility and flexibility are absolute necessities. Be prepared to do everything from attending top-flight industry conferences with clients to helping set up the chairs at our events.
Special Topics Product Manager - Climate Focus
As Product Manager, you will work across editorial and business departments to help bring a new section of The Christian Science Monitor to life. You will build products from existing ideas in consultation with editorial staff as well as help to develop new ideas based on your industry experience and your contact with readers and sponsors. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must enjoy spending time understanding all sides of the issue, from editorial aims to sponsor objectives to reader desires, and be able to coordinate these issues into problems the Monitor can solve.
This position will be specifically focused on building the Monitor’s climate change and sustainability focus. It may evolve to encompass other subject areas over time and will work in consultation with product managers focused on cybersecurity, education, and income inequality.
You will work with the Special Topics Director to define product business requirements. You will work with the Sponsorship Sales, Foundations/Grants and Events teams to define go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target audience. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for your product offering, working with the sales channel and key customers.
You are the product’s strategic visionary. You’ll own your own P&L with responsibilities to hit your numbers every year and you’ll be given the autonomy and support to do so.
The Christian Science Monitor is a 24/7 news website with a global readership. The Monitor also publishes a weekly news magazine, which includes both material unique to the print product and stories that also appear on the Monitor's website. The Monitor offers a highly selective internship program.
Interns have an opportunity for hands-on experience in a range of departments - the US and world news desks and various features areas. Activities may include writing short items for the paper or website, doing research, and assisting the photo and graphics departments. It may also include some everyday office-management tasks. At the discretion of the editors, interns can assist with editing and contacting correspondents and contributors, as well as reporting their own stories. Generally, the minimum time requirement for paid internships is 35 hours a week. Academic internships are more flexible and can be considered on a part-time basis.
