Sarah Hyland livens things up in low-cut frock on set of Modern Family with Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould in NYC

Season eight of Modern Family is getting off to a cheery and fashionable start.

Sarah Hyland didn't need much direction in that area as she got to work with her co-stars Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould on location in New York City on Thursday.

The 25-year-old actress put her chic self forward in a burgundy flowered dress with V-cut neckline and black ankle-strapped high heels.

Sarah appeared to be having a blast with her onscreen siblings and when she wasn't laughing and smiling with Ariel and Nolan, indulged in a coffee refreshment.

At one point, the star was seen sitting with legs demurely crossed while sipping her brew.

Her short bob was styled in a tousled 'do and framed her lightly made-up face.

Ariel, 18, who has been prone to posting scantily clad photos of herself on Instagram, was looking more demure on this day.

The teenage star was wearing dark denim jeans with a black sleeveless blouse and taupe suede ankle boots to match her taupe leather shoulder bag.

Ariel wore her character's black-rimmed specs while her long dark brown hair was parted off-centre and brushed straight.

Nolan, 17, had a goofy grin on his face as his TV 'sisters' practiced their poses between takes.

The group was filming a scene on a busy street with buses rolling by and pedestrians gawking, but all three were total pros.

Modern Family returns to the small screen on September 21.

Some of the surprises in store include vacations to New York, the Midwest and Mexico, and a Father's Day celebration once the family is home again, as E! News reported.

Once they're settled, Claire (Julie Bowen) and Jay (Ed O'Neill) will face some issues at their company, Gloria (Sofia Vergara) will get off to a running start with her hot sauce enterprise while Phil (Ty Burrell) continues with his unusual hobbies and Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) realizes that being a tween isn't smooth sailing.
