'My seventies glory!' James Franco sports his sleazy The Deuce 'tache as he joins Seth Rogen to promote Sausage Party

He is presently filming HBO's The Deuce, set in and around New York's Times Square where porn and prostitution were rampant in the 1970s.

And that, of course, required James Franco to grow an era-appropriate moustache, floppy hair and long sideburns, which he sported at a taping of NBC's Today Show at Rockefeller Center Studios in New York on Thursday.

Host Savannah Guthrie called the 38-year-old actor out on his facial hair at the end of his interview with Seth Rogen for their new movie, Sausage Party.

He laughingly admitted he had grown it for the HBO drama, adding: 'Caught me in the middle of my Seventies glory.'

James suited up in black for the promo appearance, adding a crisp white shirt that he left unbuttoned at the neck.

And he slicked his hair back so that it looked less like the shag style for the series, but he couldn't disguise the 'tache and sideburns.

Meanwhile, the two friends played off each other as they talked up their R-rated adult comedy Sausage Party, an animation about grocery store food unaware of the terrible fate that awaits them after they are purchased.

Ton of fun: James and his 34-year-old pal played off each other's jokes as  Franco, who voiced Druggie 'one of the only humans in the film,' called it, 'the best movie ever made'

Seth, 34, dead-panned: 'It's been much better received that you'd think a talking hot dog would be' adding that they had used every possible sausage double-entendre they could think of.

'If there were a triple-entendre we would have done it.'

James, who voiced Druggie 'one of the only humans in the film,' had his tongue firmly in his cheek when he called it possibly 'the best movie ever made.'

Due out on Friday, Seth and James agreed the film really isn't for children, with Seth adding: 'If you bring your kids to it then you are a bad parent.'

Later in the day Franco was spotted looking very more relaxed in what looked like gym wear as he left a restaurant.

The star wore a white T-shirt under a black bomber jacket with knee-length baggy shorts and white sneakers. He jammed a cap over his hair and covered up with a pair of dark glasses.
