Heartbroken Courtney Stodden cradles her 'reborn baby' doll during coffee run... six weeks after suffering devastating miscarriage

It's been six weeks since Courtney Stodden shared the devastating news that she'd miscarried the baby she was expecting with her husband Doug Hutchison.

And on Thursday, the 21-year-old showed she's doing her best to bounce back, as she stepped out in Los Angeles affectionately cradling her new 'reborn baby' doll.

Stopping at a local coffee shop for an iced beverage, Courtney held tightly onto the replica of a newborn baby, which was clothed in a patterned onesie.

As she sat solo at a curbside table, Courtney - with her golden tresses in pigtails under a grey cap - removed the doll's hood and softly caressed its hair while smiling.

Wearing a crop top with leggings and wedge heels, she then hugged the doll as she strolled through the sun-kissed Southern California streets.

Last month, the reality TV star revealed on Instagram that her therapist had suggested she purchase a doll to help her cope with her loss.

Wearing a pink wig after she shaved her head due to grief, the aspiring singer was seen opening the doll from its box before cradling it and sharing snaps of it around the house.

Sharing the video on Instagram, she wrote: 'Just received my reborn baby today! exciting  i know it may seem a little strange but my therapist suggested that having him may help me cope with my loss. #rebornbaby [sic].'

In the video, Courtney showed herself discovering and opening the parcel as she exclaimed: 'The baby's here, oh my God, I'm so nervous - it's fragile I don't want to hurt him.

WHAT ARE REBORN DOLLS?

  • Reborn dolls are manufactured skin doll that are designed to resemble a human infant
  • Some women have found that caring for a doll can help with the grief of losing a child
  • Psychologists are divided as to whether using a doll can help with the grieving process
  • The hobby of creating reborn dolls began in 1939 when doll enthusiasts wanted more realistic creations
  • Reborners refer to holding their dolls as cuddle therapy
  • Studies suggest cuddling a baby causes a release of hormones which produce a sense of emotional well-being, which some psychologists believe can be replicated with dolls
  • The International Reborn Doll Artists (IRDA) group was created to educate artists in the art form of reborn doll making
  • Due to their lifelike appearances there have been instances of dolls being 'rescued' from parked cars

As well as the doll, Courtney also received a birth certificate, on which she left the doll's name and date of birth blank.

The doll's height, weight and maker had been filled out, with the card revealing it came from Tiny Toe Angels nursery.

Reborn babies are collectible for their realistic looks, complete with hair made of mohair, veins, nails, eyelashes - and even a touch of saliva at the corner of the mouth.

But as well as doll-lovers, grieving women are also among the buyers of the lifelike dolls which resemble the infants they have lost.

Particularly popular in Britain and the United States, some of the 'reborns' are ordered by those mourning lost children, while others are simply collected by doll-lovers.

The sad news came just after she suffered a nasty fall while strolling through her neighborhood in Los Angeles on July 7.

She tripped right over her own two feet and landed on her hands and knees, sending her green smoothie flying in every direction.  It remains unknown if the tumble had anything to do with the miscarriage news.

Courtney was an aspiring singer and actress who met Doug while he hosted an internet acting workshop.
