Padma Lakshmi turned 46 in style in New York City on Thursday.

The Top Chef host showed her lean legs in cutoff denim shorts while headed home after a birthday celebration.

Padma added some flair with a blue military vest over a short-sleeved white blouse.

She completed her look with black ankle boots and accessorised with large sunglasses and multiple silver bracelets.

Padma had her dark hair down in soft curls and added a pop of colour with bright red lipstick.

The cookbook author later shared a sweet video on Instagram of an intimate birthday celebration with her six-year-old daughter Krishna.

The short video clip showed Lakma wearing a Happy Birthday hat as she and Krishna blew out candles on a cake.

Party time: Padma was headed from one birthday celebration to another with daughter Krishna

Padma fanned the candle smoke toward her daughter who playfully protested, 'Not my way'.

'Sorry,' Padma said.

The India native previously admitted she didn't know who Krishna's father was at first as she fell pregnant in 2009 while dating two men.

The brunette beauty following her 2007 divorce from author Salman Rushdie was romancing Adam Dell, the venture capitalist brother of Dell computer firm founder Michael Dell, as well as the late Teddy Forstmann, Chairman and CEO of IMG.

It was later proved through DNA tests that Adam, 46, was the father.

He was forced to go to Manhattan's Supreme Court in 2012 to get Padma to put his name on Krishna's birth certificate.
