The prince of selfies! Cheeky builder snatches a photo with giggling Kate - two years after he posed for picture with Charles

  • Duke and Duchess of Cambridge kick off their trip to Cornwall and Isles of Scilly today
  • Their tour began with a visit to Truro Cathedral to support appeal for new roof
  • The pair were left in fits of giggles by a group of muscular builders as they walked past
  • Builder Sam Wayne snapped a selfie with them - his second royal snap in two years
  • The Duchess went for understated dress, teamed with her favourite nude wedges
  • Royal couple met youngsters from Wave Project which teaches surfing to reduce anxiety

There's scarcely a woman in the land who hasn't been on the receiving end of banter from a cheeky builder - and royalty is no exception.

Today the Duchess of Cambridge, 34, caught the eye of a group of builders as she visited the Nansledan housing development in Cornwall with William.

As the royal couple strolled past, construction worker Sam Wayne, from Redruth, was seen gesturing to Kate as his colleagues stood by laughing - before snapping a selfie with the pair in the background.

Look pretty in pink like the Duchess of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William are set to embark on a Royal Tour of Canada later this month, but this week they are a little closer to home, visiting Cornwall and the Scilly Isles in the UK.

Their first stop on was Truro Cathedral where Kate certainly didn’t disappoint. The Duchess was her usual stylish self in a chic pastel pink midi dress by Lela Rose, featuring a fit and flare silhouette and elegant elbow length sleeves.

Kate was obviously prepared for a long day of engagements and accessorized her look with a fashionable but functional pair of espadrille wedges from Monsoon.

Lela Rose is a New York-based label that Kate has worn before. The fashion house is synonymous with elegance and femininity, with their signature aesthetic consisting of pretty pastels, luxurious lace and ladylike cuts.

Luckily for us this dress is currently on sale for $777 and available to buy with a click to the right. Or alternatively emulate Kate’s look with one of the picks from our edit below. Splash out on Goat and Giambattista Valli, or get the look for less at Asos.

The construction worker positioned himself alongside the royals to snap a selfie as they walked past and the Duchess took it in good spirits, giggling as she strolled alongside her husband.

And the cheeky builder uploaded the selfie to Facebook, explaining that he'd previously snapped a picture with Prince Charles in 2014.

'He's done it again,' Sam wrote of his own efforts on Facebook. 'Prince William and Kate Middleton. Not as close as my Prince Charles but still a royal selfie.' He labelled the shot 'royal selfie pt 2' in a post which has been liked more than 100 times in the space of an hour.

He told MailOnline: 'I'm a fan of the royals and love a good old selfie, so put the two together. It's about opportunism and being a bit brave at the same time.'

Sam, who married his girlfriend Hayley in April this year, works as a charge hand at LTC, according to his Facebook page.

The couple were in Nansledan to view the site where Sam was working today, which will provide future business and housing for the local area.

Earlier, Kate again proved herself to be a good sport as  she stopped off at Healey's Cornish Cider Farm and got behind the bar to pull a pint.

The local business is celebrating its 30th anniversary and one of the area's top tourist attractions and the royal toured the facility, including the production hall and distillery, and met staff who work on the site.

For today's whirlwind visit to Cornwall, Kate opted for a pale pink dress by US designer Lela Rose, who specialises in clothes that 'exude elegance and casual luxury'.

Her Resort 2016 dress originally retailed at $1,295 (£976) but Kate, who is known to love a bargain, may have purchased hers in the sale for $777 (£585).

Kate wisely opted for a pair of her go-to nude wedges from Monsoon, which she previously wore on the royal tour of India in April.

But her choice of a US designer was something of a departure from the Duchess who usually showcases British brands on her royal engagements.

She carried a small box clutch and accessorised with a simple pair of diamond earrings.

Meanwhile Prince William opted for the smart casual look in a grey checked jacket, a white shirt and navy trousers.

The royal couple began their day touring Truro Cathedral and signed a slate as they publicly backed Truro Cathedral's multimillion pound roof appeal.

The original Truro Cathedral roof has been in place since it was completed between 1885 and 1908, but is now in urgent need of repairs, costing £3.2 million to complete, to preserve the cathedral for future generations.

During the visit William and Kate marvelled at the towering splendour of the building designed by architect John Loughborough Pearson in a gothic revival style.

Outside, William and Kate went on a royal walkabout among the crowd.

One woman asked William if she could give him a kiss and he duly obliged, agreeing to a hug and a photo too.

Royal fan Linda Moore, 62, said: 'I asked him: 'Can I have a kiss?' And he said: 'You can give me a peck on the cheek.''

When she asked if she could have a hug too, William replied: 'Oh, go then,' and posed for a picture with her.

Mrs Moore, a retired teaching assistant from Camborne, Cornwall, told William she had met his late mother Princess Diana about 25 years ago in nearby Redruth.

'I said to him: 'You look like your mum,' and he said: 'I think my mum was better looking'.

'He's lovely. I've just got to meet Harry now. Then I've met all of them. I met the Queen in Camborne.'

William and Kate chatted to dozens of well-wishers, teasing children about the end of the school holidays.

The second in line to the throne asked Isobel Hodge, 10, and Dulcie Power, 10, both from Penryn, Cornwall: 'Have you been on the beach? Are your parents fed up with you now?'

Their next stop was Zebs Youth Centre, a drop-in centre which aims to inspire young people through creative activities such as recording music and taking photos.

Their Royal Highnesses had a tour of the facilities the centre offers, including the music recording studio, youth café and community area, and learned about Zebs' programmes, such as its mental health and wellbeing support services, as well as meeting local young people who regularly visit the youth centre.

And while chatting to youngsters, Prince William opened up about how it took him  an 'awfully long time' to know what he wanted to do in life.

After they heard about a programme which helps young people build their CVs and encourages them in career opportunities, Kate asked: 'Do any of you know what you would love to be? Do you have some aspirations?'

William, also 34, cut in: 'It is totally cool not to have that by the way. It took me an awfully long time to work out what I wanted to be.'

Kate agreed: 'It's so difficult because there's so much out there. It is hard, isn't it, to pinpoint one thing. William is right. I found it difficult as well.'

Tamara Crowe, 17, from Truro, who is studying mechanics, agreed she found their admissions reassuring.

She said afterwards: 'Yes it was. Because they're higher class and stuff like that so it's just reassuring that we can do well as well.

'They sounded very interested in everything. They actually do genuinely want to know what it's like.'

William was offered the chance to play the drums at the centre, which offers a mixture of courses and drop-in programmes for young people run by Young People Cornwall, but he denied.

When first asked he said: 'Absolutely not, I would literally just hammer he drums.'

When asked again by young drummer Kieran Hladkji, 16, the blushing prince protested: 'I'm fine thanks. I know where my strengths lie and it is definitely not at a drum set.'

Kieran, who had been rehearsing ahead of the visit for two weeks, said afterwards: 'The way we rehearsed it was that I would ask them if they want to play then I'd show them how to play something instead of me playing something for them.

'So I didn't know what to do. It would have been nice to see it. I didn't know what to do so I just played something I'm confident with.'

He added about William playing the drums: 'We rehearsed it for two weeks so I was hoping he would (play) but I did have a sinking feeling inside that he wouldn't.'

Singer Ellie Kiraly, 16, who impressed William and Kate with her rendition of Sam Smith's hit song 'Stay With Me', added: 'I think he was tempted but decided he wouldn't.

'They got Kieran to do a little bit, he did really well with that.'

She had a nervous night after only being told she would be performing for the royals the evening before.

'I was really nervous - I was shaking a bit,' she said. 'It was a really weird experience.'

The teenager admitted she had spent all night 'tossing and turning' ahead of her performance.

'I nearly backed out of it because I was told last night but I decided that I would regret it,' she added.

The couple also met young women and young men who were taking part in programmes to help their mental health such as an allotment project and photograph collage project.

Later this afternoon, The Cambridges will also visit Newquay's famous Towan beach where children are taught to surf by the Wave Project, an organisation that uses the activity to help reduce anxiety in young people and improve their mental wellbeing.

As well as learning about the organisation's work, the couple will be introduced to young people who benefit from their programmes.

Today William, who will one day succeed his father as Duke of Cornwall, will also visit a number of initiatives by the Duchy of Cornwall, a private estate of land, property and investments established in 1337, that funds the public, charitable and private activities of the Prince of Wales and his family.

On Friday the royal couple will travel to the nearby Isles of Scilly to experience the islands of St Mary's, Tresco and St Martin's and learn more about the industries that operate there and local life and culture from residents.

This evening, the couple will stay at a 500-year property owned by the Prince of Wales's Duchy of Cornwall estate.

Historic Restormel Manor, close to the medieval town of Lostwithiel near Bodmin, can sleep 18 in its five double bedrooms and four twin bedrooms, and costs £1,700 a week to rent, but this rises to £2,650 in high season.
