'[Chevy] wants to be the best that he can be,' she added.

Thirty years ago the Vacation star was  admitted to the Betty Ford Clinic for treatment of an addiction to prescription painkillers.

His rep at the time claimed he took the drugs for chronic and long-term back problems resulting from years of pratfalls and stunts dating to his days on Saturday Night Live.

The comedy legend was a frequent cocaine user earlier in his career, according to the book Saturday Night: A Backstage History of Saturday Night Live, by Douglas Hill and Jeff Weingrad.

'Several of those on the show say Chevy was one of the first to begin using coke heavily, in part because he was the first who could afford to,' the authors claimed.

'His coke consumption, witnesses say, often exceeded two grams a day, an amount that caused him to swing at times between megalomania and paranoia, and on occasion left him all but incoherent.'

However in an interview with Esquire in 2010, Chase claimed his drug use at the time was 'low level'.

'I never shot things up or freebased. I was pretty low-level when it came to drug abuse,' he said. 'I checked myself into the Betty Ford Clinic after my nose started to hurt.'

Chase left Saturday Night Live after just one season - the first - but his Weekend Update segment lives on to this day 40 seasons later.

In 2012, Chase abruptly left the sitcom Community after a public feud with Dan Harmon, the show's creator and former executive producer.

Messages Chase left on Harmon's voicemail surfaced online, revealing the actor's dissatisfaction with the direction he felt the show was taking.

In one message the actor was heard saying Community was a 'mediocre sitcom' and accused Harmon of not understanding 'what it is I do that's funny'.
