Tiger Woods put her off marriage! Champion skier Lindsey Vonn admits troubled love life made her wary of getting wed on Running Wild

Being in a relationship with a famed philanderer is enough to make anyone doubt the institution of marriage.

And champion skier Lindsey Vonn admitted her troubled love life has put her off getting wed during her appearance on Running Wild With Bear Grylls on Monday.

The experience of putting her life on the line alongside the famed survivalist loosed the blonde beauty's tongue, and she ended up telling the adventurer all about her romantic history and how it has darkened her hopes of finding true love.

The 31-year-old also griped about her 'terrible decision' to marry fellow skier Thomas Vonn when she was just 22 - though her heartbreak paled when compared to that suffered by the end of her three-year relationship with love cheat golf star Tiger.

She said: 'I mean, I loved him so much, and I still do. It just didn't work, you know?'

'It was too much with his competition schedule and mine, and he has two kids. We're still on good terms, we're friends. But it was really hard.'

Asked if she would ever get married again, she cynically snapped: 'Probably not. I've done all that - it's a nice check mark on the ol' life goals bucket list.'

'If you want to be with someone, just be with them. You don't really need to go through the whole marriage thing. It's less complicated.'

But she then admitted that it was more about finding the right man, telling the self--styled survivalist: 'I want to be myself and I want to be supported and... it's a pretty rare find to find a guy that wants that.'

Indeed the man she seems to admire most is her grandfather, who she called an 'incredible guy' who she has 'so much respect for.' Bear said that maybe one day she might meet a man just like him.

In a moment that would bring tears to a glass eye, she sadly replied: 'Wishful thinking.'

Despite her negative outlook on long-term love, she insisted she 'definitely wants kids' one day, saying her main lesson would be teaching them 'toughness.'

'I definitely want to teach my kids that they can be whatever they want to be. Nothing's going to be handed to them - there's no substitute for hard work,' she said, revealing it was what her grandfather had taught her.

'I think it's probably one of the most valuable lessons.'

She also spoke about how she was coached by dad Alan Kildow until she was 16 - then did not speak to him for six years after she 'moved out of the house and did my own thing for a while.'

'And then I got married!' she said, admitting: 'I didn't say I was smart. That was a terrible decision. It was terrible.'

She also spoke about how her family 'sacrificed so much' for her career, saying: 'My whole family moved out to Colorado when i was 12 - my brothers and sisters didn't ask for that. They didn't ask to leave their friends.

'When I won the Olympics I felt it meant something.'

Lindsey discussed some of her worst injuries, and also how she switches herself off completely at the Olympics to ease the pressure.

'I just shut myself off and pretended like it was just another race,' she said.

'I didn't go to Opening Ceremonies, I didn't stay with the team. I stayed in a separate lodge, I just totally shut myself off - no TV, no cellphone.

'I made banana bread - I made a lot of banana bread. I think all my coaches gained at least 10lbs.'

She smiled as she added: 'That's what happened after my divorce. The season after I got divorced was the best of my career.'

Now she wants new challenges in her career - taking on the men.

'If you haven't noticed yet, I'm a little bit feisty, and I like a challenge and the next level is what the men do. If I really want to see what I'm capable of doing then I should have the opportunity to compete with them,' she said.

'I train with them all the time, and I beat them.

'Not all of them, but I definitely send some home crying, for sure,' she said with a smile.

Lindsey had shown that independence and competitiveness from the very start of their challenge after she stripped down to a bikini to swim from their speedboat to the rocky shore in Corsica.

Bear reached out a gentlemanly hand of support to help her get on the rocks, leading her to firmly tell him: Don't help me, stop - I'm not a girl.'

Even as she fell back into the water - laughing at the bad timing - she maintained: 'Don't help me. If I was stuck on an island by myself I wouldn't have you to help me.'

The theme continued throughout their adventure, which included abseiling, rock climbing, and shimmying across a giant hole in the cliffs on a rope fired across by harpoon.

'If I'm gonna die then yeah, I'll ask for help,' she joked.

And when Bear handed her a safety rope at one point he had to stress: 'This is not because you're a girl.'

She said her leadership attitude came from growing up the eldest of five children in Minnesota, telling Bear: 'I'm the captain of the ship - I'm not used to following someone.'

She seemed most excited when Bear challenged her to a competition to hold breath underwater - with him only winning by cheating - with him admitting: 'One thing I've noticed about Lindsey is that everything's a competition - and mainly between boys and girls.'

At one point she also filmed herself when she woke in the night from being too cold, showing Bear fast asleep and saying: 'This guy stole all the damn blankets!'

As they finished their adventure, waiting for a helicopter to pick them up, Bear told the skier: 'You're in charge. You're captain of the ship.'

He then praised her for having 'mental toughness' in 'spades,' saying: 'Captain of the ship, and it's inspiring to see.'
