SPOILER ALERT! A killer ending! Travis watches son blow poultry farmer away on Fear The Walking Dead
Travis Manawa was faced with the ultimate test for a father on Fear The Walking Dead as his son turned into a stone cold killer.
Teen Chris Manawa had already frustrated his father on the hit zombie show by insisting they travel with three young guys who the elder clearly did not trust.
But he then pushed him to new heights when he gunned down a farmer who tried to stop them stealing his chickens.
Time for a little talk: Travis Manawa was shocked when son Chris killed a farmer in Fear The Walking Dead
Travis, played by Chris Curtis, had already begged them to leave the farm before the confrontation - having seen graves for the farmer’s family - and then insisted more furiously when the farmer approached, shotgun in hand.
‘This is his place, we have to leave,’ he insisted passionately. ‘We have no right, Chris - we have no right!’
Outnumbered and speaking only Spanish, the farmer had shot first, hitting one of the guys when he snapped a chicken’s neck.
But with Travis screaming out ’no!’ his son then grabbed a gun and shot the farmer, smiling after his cold blooded shooting.
Down at the farm: The group had stumbled across what they thought was an abandoned country estate
Barnyard animals: The hungry young chaps went off in search of food
Hang on a minute: But Travis made a fateful discovery as he walked around outside
Cross purposes: He discovered a trio of freshly buried graves
Chris - who the strangers had already dubbed ‘Killer Chis’ after he bragged about having made 17 kills - then reached out a hand to his dad who had kneeled down beside the dying farmer.
Instead, Travis looked at him with nothing but disgust - and pointedly refused to take his offered hand at the very end of the episode.
Chris, played by Lorenzo James Henrie, had first confronted the three new guys - who later told them they were called Brandon, Derek, Baby James - in an abandoned diner when he stole food and water from them after killing zombies, escaping before they could stop him.
When they finally caught up with them, they praised his ‘major badassery,’ and quickly made peace as Brandon told him: ‘You say you saved my life, I say you stole my shit. Do you want a debate or do you wanna eat?’
A chicken and egg situation: They discovered a poultry brood living inside
Get orf my land: The farmer was understandably not happy at what was transpiring
Mexican stand-off: The lads tried to use strong arm tactics to force the farmer to back down
Telling them they had been ‘partying when the s**t hit the fan’ - and admitting they call the zombies ’the wasted’ as they look drunk - the said the were trying to get home to San Diego.
‘LA’s gone, San Diego’s gone,’ Travis warned them. ‘Saw it burning on the way down here. Everything’s destroyed.’
‘Yeah well we’ll come back. We always do,’ Brandon insisted, offering to take the father and son with them as the had run out of gas.
Despite only just meeting them, Chris insisted to his dad in private: ‘They’re good people. They’re strong people.’
Can't we just be friends: Travis ran in and tried to calm the situation
Bringing a pistol to a shotgun fight: But the angry agriculturalist only spoke Spanish
Actions speak louder than words: He showed he was serious by gunning down one of the group
‘But they’re not our people,’ Travis warned, adding: ‘I think they’re dangerous.’
‘Maybe that’s what to takes,’ Chris said, eventually persuading his dad to at least travel with them to the next town in the morning.
As the traveled, Chris clearly enjoyed the company of younger guys - while Brandon confused Travis by insisting their new life was ‘awesome.’
‘We got no speed limits, no cops, no money, no work, no bills, no bullshit. We’re just living,’ he said.
Thighly painful: The sharpshooting farmer shot the chicken stealer in the leg
Oh dear: Travis seemed rooted to the spot as things boiled over
The Bernard Matthews treatment: The poultry farmer was fatally shot in response
Saying the were ‘less than’ nothing before, he said: ‘But now? The end time’s made us gods.’
When they finally found the farm - before they knew it was still home to the farmer - Travis again pleaded with his son to abandon the others and set up camp there.
‘Once they leave we stay. Make this home,’ he said.
‘We need a group, dad. We need people. They look at me different,’ he said, catching up with the others and joining in with their joking around.
Killer Chris indeed: He lived up to his nickname with his lethal marksmanship
Oh boy: His daddy did not look overly pleased with his overzealous behaviour
Time for a stern talking to:
If only: They had stuck to eating canned goods the tragedy would never have happened
The episode had started with dramatic scenes at a wedding during the initial outbreak of the zombie infection.
During the first dances, the mother of the bride told the hotel manager where the wedding was being held that they would be cutting short the ceremony as they wanted to flee Mexico.
‘This thing, this sickness they’re reporting - they say it’s spreading,’ she said. ‘They’re talking about closing the border. We want our family north of it before then.’
Then as the father of the bride danced with his daughter, he suddenly collapsed - and then bit off a chunk of his daughter’s face as she tried to give him the kiss of life.
Meanwhile: There was a rare moment of joy when a wedding took place at the start of the show
Father of the bride: The joy continues when her proud parent comes over
Oh no: But he suddenly collapses to the floor and turns into a hungry zombie
The female manager then left the room and locked them all inside - with the hotel turning out to be the one where Alicia Clark, played by Alycia Debnam Carey, was still holed up and desperately trying to find her mother Madison.
Alicia was shown making a dramatic run from her room - having to jump into an empty elevator shaft and grabbing the central rope to avoid zombies who were almost on her - before being saved by the manager, Elena, who had stayed there since the wedding drama.
But she quickly turned on her, holding an axe at her chest and accusing her of being one of the guests who had captured her nephew, Hector, to draw her out and get the hotel keys.
Bad idea: When she tries to give him the kiss of life he bits her face
Bridezilla: She starts screaming in pain after being attacked on her big day
Shocked: The hotel manager is beside herself with shock at the bizarre happenings
‘This is a maze and I know how to run it,’ Elena insisted, with Alicia finally persuading her she was not involved in taking her nephew and that they could find others and make their escape.
‘The s**t my family’s been through, six of us is equal to a dozen. We can defend each other, trust me. We do that or we die up here,’ Alicia told her.
They finally ran out and drew the zombies on their floor towards them, with Elena locking the doors behind them and Alicia racing out onto the balcony, getting across to the next door with the help of a bedsheets Elena threw her just seconds before the zombies cracked through the balcony window.
They eventually made their way to the ballroom where the wedding had been, with Elena tearing up at the memory of having locked them all in ‘until help could come.’
Uh oh: It looks like it will be curtains for Alicia as she is attacked by zombies
Glass act: The hungry flesh eaters crush against the glass to break through
‘It never did,’ she added tearfully. ‘There was no one there to save us. People died - and now they hate me.’
‘I’ve seen worse. We’ve done worse,’ Alicia assured her. ‘I won’t let them touch you, I promise.’
They were finally confronted by some of the guests - including the groom and mother of the bride, who said of Elena: ‘This monster doesn’t deserve to live. I want her dead - like my daughter, my husband.’
I want to break free: But she escapes to the next room with the aid of a sheet
Escape: the dynamic duo decide the time has finally come to flee the hotel
Elena finally handed them the hotel keys in return for her nephew - and they then opened the door to allow the zombies out to chase them, with Alicia, Elena and her nephew escaping by hiding behind the opened door.
As Alicia went about desperately searching for her mother, she thought she found her - but seeing it was a stranger now turned zombie instead stabbed her in the head.
But she did finally find her at the very end of the episode - with Madison, played by Kim Dickens, looking worryingly faint and short of breath.
Where's my mother? Alicia wants to rescue her mother before heading outside
That's not her: But it turns out the person she thought was her parent is a zombie
This is your knife: She slays the hungry monster by spiking it in the head
