Jennifer and Bryan were reportedly paid the minimal SAG scale rate to star in the nervous breakdown drama, which was shot by director Robin Swicord in 20 days.

The voiceover-heavy Wakefield - based on E. L. Doctorow's 2008 short story - has received mixed early reviews and it's still seeking US distribution.

The Infiltrator actor said his performance was partly inspired by his late father Joseph, an actor/amateur boxer who walked out on his family when Cranston was 11.

'The notion of abandoning my children, as a character, and his wife was a trigger point for me,' Bryan explained onstage the Werner Herzog Theatre - according to Deadline

'And so there were all sorts of issues that I had to deal with before I could then embrace Howard Wakefield.'
