Odell Beckham Jr. emerges at U.S. Open in wake of Lena Dunham's apology over THAT Met Gala encounter

Odell Beckham Jr. was a vision of cool as he attended the 2016 U.S. Open Monday, in the wake of Lena Dunham's apology to him after calling out the New York Giants star for a perceived slight at May's Met Gala.

The wide receiver, 23, was clad in a white tank top and grey cap as he settled in to catch the action at Queens, New York's USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, seemingly oblivious to the controversy sparked by 30-year-old Girls creator.

The drama initially erupted from an interview Lena conducted on her Lenny Letter website Friday with fellow pop culture darling Amy Schumer.

The women opened up on why they chose to make an early exit from the event, with Dunham making some pointed jabs at the star athlete, implying that he snubbed her because she wasn't up to his aesthetic standards.

She told Schumer, 'It was like he looked at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman ... he was like, '"That's a marshmallow. That's a child. That's a dog." It wasn't mean - he just seemed confused.'

The outspoken HBO star continued: 'The vibe was very much like, "Do I want to f*** it? Is it wearing a … yep, it's wearing a tuxedo. I'm going to go back to my cell phone." It was like we were forced to be together, and he literally was scrolling Instagram rather than have to look at a woman in a bow tie.

The snarky commentary came with a backlash from social media users who dubbed Dunham as shallow, hypocritical and immature for her observations regarding the Louisiana-born NFL All-Pro.

Dunham offered a slightly defensive rebuttal on her Twitter page Friday, casting the comments as a reflection on her observational comedy instincts that have made her a household name.

After she said that Beckham's 'talented, stylish ... and wasn't into chatting with me at a fancy party,' she said that her earlier remarks were 'clearly (to me) about my own insecurities as an average-bodied woman at a table of supermodels & athletes.

'It's not an assumption about who he is or an expectation of sexual attention. It's my sense of humor, which has kept me alive for 30 years.'

In a nod to the backlash she received, Dunham remarked in a tweet addressed to Schumer, 'Glad the outrage machine roars on though, right?'

While her set of tweets on Friday presumably put the issue to bed - the talented LSU alum has not responded to any of the hubbub, likely focusing on his Giants' NFL season opener in Dallas Sunday - the Golden Globe winner posted an apology letter on her Instagram page Saturday.

In the letter - which had a more contrite tone than her set of tweets the previous day - Dunham put the blame for the controversy squarely on herself, for publicly connecting her insecurities toward the behavior of others.

'I owe Odell Beckham Jr an apology. Despite my moments of bravado, I struggle at industry events (and in life) with the sense that I don’t rep a certain standard of beauty and so when I show up to the Met Ball surrounded by models and swan-like actresses it’s hard not to feel like a sack of flaming garbage,' Dunham wrote.

She admitted that she erred in projecting her 'insecurities' and making 'totally narcissistic assumptions about what he was thinking' before presenting 'those assumptions as facts.'

'I feel terrible about it. Because after listening to lots of valid criticism, I see how unfair it is to ascribe misogynistic thoughts to someone I don’t know AT ALL.'

Dunham stressed that she meant no racial overtones with her comments, as she said she 'would never intentionally contribute to a long and often violent history of the over-sexualization of black male bodies ... as well as false accusations by white women towards black men.'
