This is the incredible moment a man hunting in rural Florida rescued a deer from the death grip of a huge python.

Jimmy Wilson was hiking through a swampy area near Ochopee in Collier County when he came upon the deer who was pinned down as a python had wrapped itself around it.

Wilson, who is originally from Miami, recorded video of the shocking encounter on his cell phone.

The video first shows the white-tailed deer on the ground, as the python - a non-native invasive species in the state - wrapping itself tightly around the animal.

Wilson fires a few more shots at the python, before eventually killing it.

He then goes back to coax the deer into getting up and running away.

His video does not show the moment the deer actually stands, however, Wilson says 'he just ran off.'

According to the Naples Daily News, Wilson recorded the incident a few months ago.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission allow the hunting of pythons in the state.

In recent years, they have hosted Python Challenges where hundreds of people compete for cash prizes for capturing the largest and most pythons.

The snake is being blamed for upsetting the natural balance of the Everglades ecosystem.
