Despite being dishonest during the early years of his marriage, Rick praises his wife of 32 years for forgiving him and having faith in their love.

'Thank god for forgiveness. Honestly, the only reason we're still married is because she forgave me enough and saw that I had a good heart in that right direction.'

During the Channel Seven broadcast interview, Rick opened up about his smash hit, Jessie's Girl, and explained the tune was based on a real-life crush.

'I met her in a stained glass class and had a boyfriend...and it was just another song I wrote,' he explained adding: 'I would recognise her if I saw her again.'

He added: 'I only ever play it [the song] live. I don't sit in my living room and play Jessie's Girl by myself. I don't listen to it in my car.

'When I play it and the audience is singing the verses as well as the choruses, it's something I'm proud of...I mean, I'm proud of it.'
