The Girls star been slammed this week as racist tweets she posted years ago have been recirculated.

And Lena Dunham has come under fire again, this time from Today Show host Lisa Wilkinson in Australia, for a tweet posted in 2010 referring to African American people as 'rodents'.

'Just found my creativity journal from 2005. It begins: 'I dreamed I was a prostitute and that I molested a little African American rodent',' Lena's post read.

Lisa flew into a rage over the tweet, sharing it with her 215,000 followers along with a disgusted comment.  

'When Lena Dunham is capable of being such a positive role model why on earth has she descended into stuff like this,' she posted.

After being slammed by the Hollywood writer's fans for dredging up old posts, Lisa came back again - relating her old tweets to equally controversial recent tweets.

'So yes, that tweet is an old bit of overshare that's just resurfaced,' the TV presenter wrote.

'Seems on point though with her current style.'

Last week in an interview with her friend Amy Schumer for her online magazine Lenny Letter, Lena recounted an experience she had sitting alongside NFL player Odell Beckham Junior.

'It was so amazing because it was like he looked at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman by his standards,' she said.

'He was like, 'That's a marshmallow. That's a child. That's a dog.' It wasn't mean – he just seemed confused. 

'The vibe was very much like, 'Do I want to f--k it? Is it wearing a … yep, it's wearing a tuxedo. I'm going to go back to my cell phone'.'

She later apologised in a lengthy post to both her Twitter and Instagram accounts, but the damage had been done. 

Following the post, which triggered a huge backlash from fans of the sports star, Twitter users uncovered another racist tweet by the actress.

'An uncool thought to have: 'is that guy walking in the dark behind me a rapist? Never mind, he's Asian,'' Dunham's tweet, posted in July 2011, read.
