The 66-year-old announced last month he would leave the troupe at the completion of their Rock Or Bust world tour this year, citing a lack of enthusiasm and losing his fellow band mates and friends to illnesses.

Reflecting on his decision to leave, the Englishman told Gulfshore Life: 'It's been what I've known for the past 40 years, but after this tour I'm backing off of touring and recording.'

He added: 'Losing Malcolm, the thing with Phil and now with Brian, it's a changed animal. I feel in my gut it's the right thing.'

The announcement comes after Brian Johnson's swift departure from the group in April.

Cliff echoed the sentiments, saying: 'There was a marked drop in that one good ear and then it came back. But not completely. The doctor told him this could happen again and it may not come back'.
