  • Steadicams use gyroscopic tech to provide smooth shots while moving

He's currently filming a futuristic thriller in New York.

And it seems the director of Clive Owen's latest flick is keen to shoot it in an equally innovative way, as the actor was spotted with a bizzare camera on set on Saturday.

The 51-year-old star appeared to have been kitted out with a selfie style steadicam helmet to capture some close-up shots of his chiseled features while on the streets of Manhattan.

Dressed in a drab grey suit, crisp white shirt and tie, as well as a lightweight overcoat, Clive looked to be deep in character as detective Sal Frieland.

Surrounded by a plethora of extras for one particular scene, the Children of Men star was seen striding around with a bizarre helmet camera on top of his head.

The black crash helmet appeared to incorporate a steadicam-style gyroscopic unit - something usually used to capture footage from a moving vehicle.

With a high-tech film camera held on the helmets steel arm - designed to provide a smooth picture while moving - Clive appeared to be taking on the role of camera man as well as actor.

With the camera swinging just inched from his face, it looked as though director Andrew Niccol wanted to capture every minute detail of his leading man's features.

After being helped to prep the camera by some of the crew, Clive was left to walk down the street and film the scene from a very personal perspective.

With what appeared to be a WiFi unit attached to the high-tech ALEXA mini camera, Clive was left to adjust the unit on his own as he shot a series of takes on the street.

Capturing every piece of the action? The crash helmet appeared to incorporate a steadicam-style gyroscopic unit - something usually used to capture footage from a moving vehicle.

But soon enough it was back to normality, and the actor was relieved of his camera.

Clive was joined on set by his glamorous co-star Amanda Seyfried, who was for winter as she slipped into her own role as, The Girl.

The 30-year-old showed off a severe brunette bob and fringe and was decked out in black from top to toe.

Stylists dressed her in a trench coat, tied at the waist with a belt, worn over a T-shirt, leggings and high-heeled ankle booties.

The actress completed her ensemble with a heavy pair of gloves that must have been hot on the warm morning.

Amanda looked sombre as she walked down the middle of the street.

Hot stuff: The 30-year-old was probably feeling the heat in a trench coat, worn with a T-shirt, leggings, gloves  and high-heeled ankle booties, totally inappropriate for the warm weather

But she cheered up considerably during a break in filming when she was given a hot drink.

Both Amanda and Clive are currently hard at work on the set of the new film, which is set in a dystopian, near-future where there is no privacy or anonymity -  where even people's thoughts are recorded.

The plot sees a detective undertake a murder investigation, during which he stumbles upon a woman with no digital footprint, and who is invisible to the police.

Though events soon change course, and it appears the he has discovered the beginning of a crime as opposed to solving one.

The film which is currently shooting on location in New York and Torronto is due out in 2017.
