Cameron Diaz has taken a break from making movies.

But the Hollywood siren seems to be working on a new role - that of auntie to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden's two kids Harlow, aged eight, and Sparrow, aged six.

On Monday the 44-year-old Bad Teacher star was seen taking in a casual lunch in Los Angeles with the children. Also there was Diaz's husband Benji Madden, who she wed in 2015.

Nicole and Joel were also present, making it a full family affair.

Diaz kept it very casual in an all light grey outfit.

The There's Something About Mary star had on a tank top with matching skinny jeans and sneakers, all in the same hue.

The ex of Justin Timberlake went fresh faced with not a spot of lipstick or blush, and pulled her blonde locks into a messy updo that screamed day off.

Nicole, who is a fashion designer (House Of Harlow), left her style bar at home as she covered her curves in plenty of material.

The former bestie of Paris Hilton had a hoodie zip-up over a graphic T-shirt. Baggy sweatpants showed not an inch of skin. And her Converse black sneakers looked pre-teen.

The beauty did manage to add some flair with a cute Panama hat that was ivory colored and had a wife black band.

The only way to tell Joel and Benji apart was that Joel had on a short-sleeved top and shorts while his twin wore long sleeves and long slacks.

Also, Benji has finger tattoos while Joel does not.

Diaz was seen carrying out a full iced tea as Nicole and Joel focused on the kids. She also glanced at her cell phone as she walked through the parking lot.

Benji and Joel have been working on music for their band Good Charlotte. Earlier this year they completed some tour dates.

Meanwhile, Diaz has been taking cooking classes and hanging out with her gal pals that include not just Nicole but also Gwyneth Paltrow and Drew Barrymore.

Cameron has seemed to enjoyed taking a break from Hollywood - a town that made her a multimillionaire from hits like The Other Woman and Shrek.

In 2015 she said in the documentary Human that fame is not important.

'Fame does not define me. If you are looking for fame to define you, then you will never be happy and you’ll always be searching for happiness, and you will never find it in fame,' she said.

'Fulfillment comes from within you, by being authentic to yourself — not chasing fame.'

The star also talked about the death of her dad Emilio in 2008.

'He has left me a task, a responsibility that . . . I must dig out all the treasures that he’s left behind, all of the jewels, all of the lessons, all of the things that are going to enrich my life,' said the Sex Tape star.
