'I'm not nervous, just joyous': Dame Julie Andrews beams on the red carpet at My Fair Lady opening night in Sydney

She rose to fame playing the iconic role of Eliza Doolittle in Broadway's first-ever production of My Fair Lady, more than 60 years ago.

And so it's no wonder Dame Julie Andrews was beaming with pride as she stepped out at the My Fair Lady opening night at the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday and she shared her excitement with Daily Mail Australia while on the red carpet. 

'[I'm] very, very excited, very happy... I'm not nervous, I'm just joyous,' she said when asked about opening night.

Julie, who directed the iconic musical's Australian stage production this year, looked chic in a timeless velvet suit and black-and-white silk blouse as she posed for photos.  

She kept her accessories understated, opting to enhance her look with a long beaded necklace, matching stud earrings and a pair of pointy-toed black heels.

Also attending the star-studded event was Love Child star Jessica Marais, who looked chic in a plunge-neck black blazer and loose-fitting palazzo trousers.

Striking several powerful poses on the red carpet, the blonde beauty completed her look with a black open-toe heel and a pop of bright red lipstick.

She completed her look with a pencil skirt embroidered with thick gold detailing and a pair of unusual pointy-toed pumps.
