The 54-year-old said of Hanks: 'He did me the craziest favour ever.
'He's so adorable that he, like gathered the crew around after the ten hours that he worked and said, "I'm so happy that we got to know each other so well in these last 10 hours, but thank you for being here for my friend Meg." So adorable.'
The movie marks the fourth time Meg has worked with Hanks, with whom she memorably co-starred in Sleepless In Seattle and You've Got Mail.

But it was her first time working with her 24-year-old son, born during her marriage to actor Dennis Quaid.
Speaking of Jack, she said: 'He was so born to it in so many ways.
'He did his 10,000 hours of like, writing and directing by the time he was ten.
'So the kids were always around the house making little movies and things and so by the time he got to my set, he'd already been to Martin Scorsese's set. Now he's on Steven Soderbergh's set.'
Family values: Meg's real-life son Jack Quaid appears in the film as her onscreen child
Ithaca is set during the Second World War, with apple farmer Hanks and his wife, (Meg), playing the parents of three boys - of which Jack is the oldest.
Meg showed her ever-trendy offbeat sense of style as she promoted her movie on Tuesday's GMA.
Wearing a three-quarter length white dress and black boots, the actress, once dubbed America's sweetheart, looked at ease in front of the camera.
Ithaca opens in select theaters and is available on demand in the U.S. this Friday.
New project? Meg was spotted later that day with powerhouse actor Paul Giamatti
