Huma Abedin has stepped back into the limelight for the first time since her split with husband Anthony Weiner - minus her wedding ring.

Abedin, who ditched sext-pest Weiner on August 29, has only been glimpsed in the background of photos taken aboard Hillary Clinton's private campaign jet since then.

But these pictures, taken Tuesday night, show the Clinton staffer confidently back in the public eye as she co-hosted a fund-raiser for her boss alongside Vogue editor-in-chief Ana Wintour.

Abedin was the co-host for The Made for History Fashion Show and Rooftop Party, which took place on Tuesday evening at the Spring Studio in Tribeca, Manhattan.

The long-time Clinton ally, who is now vice-chairwoman of her presidential campaign, sported a white T-shirt dotted with the US states in blue, designed by Jason Wu for the Hillary Clinton campaign, and a sweeping red skirt.

But what really caught the eye was what she wasn't wearing: the wedding ring Weiner put on her finger six years ago.

Abedin has kept a low-profile since her much-publicized split with Weiner, which came one day after it emerged he had sexted a woman with photographs of his partially erect penis while lying next to his son.

But there was no way she was going to sit out this event, which included special guest Chelsea Clinton.

Abedin - who was glimpsed on her iPhone, possibly focused on coordinating the event - didn't take to the stage, leaving that role to Wintour.

Wintour in turn lauded the hard-working mom: 'Huma Abedin is one of the most tireless workers and one of the most talented and principled organizer of politics,' she said.

'And she's a great mother and impossibly chic, despite having one of most demanding jobs I can imagine, and someone I admire so very much.'

After the show Abedin, who was joined at the event by sister Heba, stuck around for 30 minutes, obligingly taking selfies with members of the crowd long after both Wintour and Clinton had left.
