He was suing his former client for allegedly defaming his character.

And it has now emerged Sam Lufti has agreed a settlement in the 'low six figures' in return for withdrawing his lawsuit against Britney Spears.

The music manager agreed to abandon his case, in which he accused the Toxic star of being a drug abuser and of slandering his good name, just weeks before it was due to be heard.

The case was due to go to court next month, but according to TMZ he opted to accept an offer to withdraw it.  

They agreed to settle late last week, with the financial settlement coming in at substantially less than the estimated $500,000 in legal fees Britney would have spent defending.

He had initially filed his case against Britney and her family way back in 2009, claiming he was being slandered and blamed for her career spiral after her hospitilisation in 2008. 

However he asserted the real issue was Britney had a drug problem, which he had actually tried to stop while he was her handler..

The case was initially dismissed in 2012, but after he managed to successfully appeal.

The Lucky singer, who first met Lufti in October 2007, and her family filed a restraining order against him eight years ago.

Her mother Lynne Spears claimed he 'essentially moved into Britney's home and has purported to take control of her life, home and finances.'

He was accused of tightly controlling and manipulating the then troubled popstrel, making decisions about her medications, cutting her phone lines, and even supposedly deciding who was allowed to meet with the Oops I Did It Again star.

Britney has since undergone a career renaissance, and is raking in vast sums headlining her own show at the Planet Hollywood Casino in Las Vegas.

It is not the first time this year Sam has hit the headlines, as a few months ago he was accused of kidnapping and robbing the musician estranged husband of Frances Bean Cobain.

The 41-year-old and an accomplice are said to have grabbed Isaiah Silva then 'carried him to his car at around 12:45 am on June 3'.

According to Los Angeles Police Department documents  Silva’s mobile phone said to have been stolen and a glass door being smashed, causing almost $4,000 of damage.
